In the past fifty years, in spite of the fact that women have become successful, influential and powerful in every field, both the society as well as the women themselves demand a great deal of their appearance. Plastic surgery offers a great degree of personal comfort and various opportunities for individuals to nourish their self-esteem. Most of the women undergo plastic surgery for reasons, such as removing the wrinkles around the eyes, taking liposuction to reduce the thighs, enlarging the breasts and many others . Many men also seek plastic surgery for enhancing their self-esteem similar to women. Men view the physical changes feasible with plastic surgery as a means of making them competitive and attractive in the workplace. As they age, men want to look youthful and fit in order to compete with the younger men permeating the workforce. However, it is only women who should use plastic surgery for attracting men rather than men attracting the women.
For women, looking better through plastic surgery has a tremendous influence on their personality and self-esteem when compared to men due to their critical evaluation and the expectations of the society. A sense of confidence allows women to emanate grace while appearing in the public impressing a great number of men. However, advertisements for plastic surgery always depict the patient as female and the doctor as a male often sympathetic and paternalistic. Men should understand that plastic surgery is more than fixing the signs of age or seeking perfection of the body . It is a medical specialty that restores damages maimed by a variety of traumas. Instead of viewing plastic surgery as an instrument that aids in the attraction of women, men should consider plastic surgery as a process, which corrects defects interfering with the functions or repairing wounds caused by traumatic events.
There are various shows and events that represent men with extreme ways of mirror-gazing. Although it is a known fact that men are more often the patients in general plastic surgery due to an increasing number of trauma cases, in recent times, the number of men undergoing plastic surgery merely for attracting women has increased at a rapid pace. With the changes in women, men often tend to look as attractive as possible as they worry about their appearance whether or not they meet the expectations of women. In spite of huge costs and risks involved in the plastic surgery, more men tend towards it for the sole reason of attracting women. Men are looking towards plastic surgery treatments, such as restoring the jaw line, eye lid lift surgery, rhinoplasty, reduction of man breasts and many others, which are mere cosmetic procedures .
While women are the worst critics of their beauty, men are more judgmental of their physical attributes, as well as the attributes of women. The society places external demands on women rather than men. The society assesses women on the basis of their look and personality while it assesses men on the basis of their achievements . A skillful surgeon, a powerful attorney and an influential businessman are attractive in the eyes of women not for their beauty, but for their professional accomplishments. Hence, men should understand that plastic surgery is not a means of attracting women rather it is a boon of the medical field to restore the physical appearance of an individual, which undergoes destruction. Men should explore plastic surgery as a legitimate option for repairing the damaged body parts instead of changing the physical appearance as attraction is not only external, but also innate.
Men should understand that the process of plastic surgery would lead to severe consequences. Women who take such a decision consult a reputed surgeon multiple times before the surgery and are well aware of the procedure. It is also the responsibility of men to understand that even though they spend thousands of dollars on plastic surgeries, they yield no positive results in terms of attracting women as women get impressed by the innate personality and achievements of men rather than their look. Although celebrity men take keen interest in plastic surgeries, the general public should stay away from it and focus on their career. Men should refrain from the unrealistic expectations of the surgery and understand that women who show interest in plastic surgery have right reasons and realistic expressions . They should instead develop a healthier attitude towards their diet as well as exercise to secure more successful roles in profession rather than choosing plastic surgery as an alternative for attracting women.
