In business, ethnocentric can be preference for products or services from one's culture, or a particular country. A Somali man who has diabetes though shows no explicit or overt symptoms cannot speak or communicate well in English. After medical assessment, his potentially serious medical condition may be managed with proper diet and routine monitoring. “You should watch the following,” I told him, and he nods. Later, it emerged that the patient does not attend appointments, and test results reveal he never adjusted his diet. It was no doubt; there was communication difficulty due to variation in background or language barrier. The problem was resolved by using professional resources. A professional interpreter or translator knows the language of patient and fluent in medical expressions or terminologies. The use of a professional medical translator was significant because he was never biased when translating information. The use of family members proved unwise, as they edit what they translate, and withhold information they consider bad. For example, they delete the information regarding cultural practices and beliefs.
