TED Talk: Brené Brown: The Power of Vulnerability
What does vulnerability mean? The social worker has found an answer: shame and fear. This and many other issues were discussed during her performance. I personally enjoyed it to the full. She speaks about the so-called feeling of connection, a burning problem of nowadays. To my mind people feel more and more disconnected. They think that they are not good enough for this society, not thin enough or smth else. There is always something else. People are losing their sense of worthiness and loving belonging. Our ability to love, belong and emphasize is called human connection and this is the subject of Brene’s studies. She shares with us her own experience of exploring herself in order to understand people better. Brene shows us that there are three main fears which create our vulnerability. First of all: courage to be imperfect. Second of all: compassion to be kind to ourselves and to people and connection that means to be yourself. The idea of being yourself is not new for us. People are taught to enjoy their differences and uniqueness. We cannot be the same anyway but people are still trying to look alike, to wear the same clothes and to reach an ideal appearance. Why are we so afraid? Let ourselves be seen! Brené Brown teaches us to love with our whole hearts, to practice gratitude and joy. It is a common truth that people shouldn’t be perfect to be happy. This presentation by Brene made me think in such a way. Without any doubts it is a talk to share. Vulnerability lies deeply in our hearts and souls and we should try our best to eradicate this problem once and for all.
