The modern global business environment demands exceptional leadership competencies at workplace in order to gain global recognition in the industry. There are few organizations in the world that are able to successfully implement structured leadership development plans and processes in which PepsiCo is the prominent one in the beverages industry, whereas, in comparison with RC Cola, it is still incompetent to develop the required levels of leadership development strategies that could allow it to bypass competitors. The growth of leaders at PepsiCo is attributable to the existence of comprehensive leadership development strategy that promotes numerous levels of action learning, self and peer assessments, apprenticeship programs for the development of leaders on vertical and horizontal grounds. 360 degree feedback plays a significant role in competency development and personal appraisal agenda. Self-awareness and growth, cultural intelligence, and Gardner’s Five Minds emerged as significant elements in building organizations leadership competencies. RC Cola exists distantly from PepsiCo, if comparative leadership analysis is made and hence it needs to incorporate strategic notions to grow their leaders worldwide.

Preparing the Self
Leadership is not only the authority but accountability in the context of renowned organizations and their leaders worldwide as stated by Dean Robert Joss of Stanford . Organizations receive gains from the executives that are responsible for activities that they are unaware compared to those that are familiar with it. One of the significant leadership competencies is self-awareness that shows the executive’s actuality in terms of his or her needs to learn further. This essay attempts to uncover strategies and models of PepsiCo and compare it with its competitor, RC Cola which is operating in the same industry in order to gauge the role of leadership development programs at workplace and how they create a positive difference for the organization and its workforce domestically and globally.

The majority of research on leadership promoted transformational and transactional theories of leadership. Those researches, nevertheless, only uncovered two aspects of intelligence including cognitive and affective methods. Cultural intelligence incorporated as an element of the affective leadership competency . In the growing worldwide economy, companies are probing for an innovative theoretical and conceptual framework to investigate and generate worldwide executives that can master in this innovative culture.
