Natural disasters are hazards that face living things, and are beyond their control. These disasters include; dangers like volcanoes, tsunamis, tornadoes, earthquake and floods. These natural disasters are known to impact heavily on the living things and their property; they usually result in great intensive negative effect to both human and the environment. Traditionally, people were more vulnerable to this hazard and resulted in great destruction and massive loss of life once they occurred, unlike now days where technology has improved greatly the disaster management techniques. This work will focus the developments that have led to a proper disaster management system currently seen in most nations.
According to (Watts, 30) Lack of preparedness was the greatest challenge to tradition society in managing disaster, mostly people were caught an away therefore great negative impact to the population. Today, technology has enabled human to be away when a natural disaster is about to happen, for example, using geologist and meteorological departments it is possible to determine when a volcano, floods or a tornado is likely to happen. Nations like USA have invested greatly in this department to ensure earlier know how hence never caught an away by disasters. Education is also a new technological weapon to manage the disaster, developed nation like USA and Europe nations have focused on educating their citizens’ proper preparedness of disaster like having an aid kit at home and the kind of building lives in to prevent danger of typhoons and hurricanes. They have also invested in the use of new technology to evacuate people during disasters like using helicopters that are faster hence saving more people.
In conclusion, any population is vulnerable to natural disasters, but the disaster management techniques are what dictate the level of impact to the population and the environment.
