Corporations are essential parts of the American society. In all business organizations, the labour force that is taken as a role by people is often an avenue for unjustifiable acts of immorality. Many American corporations are using the labour force to achieve their prime objectives. This concern has been widely covered by Kant’s Practical Imperative, which contends that every person should “act to treat humanity, whether yourself or another, as an end-in-itself and never as a means” (Flew 169). The dictum asserts that (1) people are not objects to be used for the obtainment of an objective, an edge, or a clear advantage (2) we must not treat every individual as only a means. But how this dictum might be violated by American corporations nowadays in their domestic operations? Historically, American companies have already been violated this by compelling members of the lower income class to toil in large cotton fields and silk plantations in extremely difficult working conditions and very less pay. Today, as after the advent of information technology, profit and extensive market dominance have become the motivation for most American corporations. Despite the vast legal system of the country that gave birth to labour unions and other social movements to improve working conditions, American corporations are taking the backdoor in order to continue the use of people as means for profit (Fields 213). For instance, very big companies influence government agencies and officials to set minimum wages to certain levels that would neutralize salaries and not making it too obvious to flare up workers’ motivation to rise up against the government.
