Introduction:
Survival of companies depends on the strategic management imposed by each CEO. One of those companies that were once the best but are now struggling to get back its investors is the web engine company “Yahoo”. Advertising has been the major source of revenue of many web engines such as Yahoo (Leven, 2014). Before Google has taken the thrown as the king of web engines, Yahoo was once the top of the cream among them in the mid-90s. This paper will discuss about the problem the companies have been facing and the long term goals of it based on the case study given.
Yahoo has been facing decreasing revenue each year since 2010. The company also has been changing CEOs that has caused many advertisers to be unconvinced of the company’s credibility. It could be clearly seen on the case study 35 that yahoo has been losing millions of dollar each year since the year 2010. Based on the case study presented, Yahoo has been losing the trust of advertisers and even some investors.
This is mainly because of competition and the increasing demands for new online content such as smart phone apps. Moreover, the establishment of good advertising credentials have been the struggle of Yahoo in the year 2005-2012. The company has been acquiring many software most are smart phone apps in order to mitigate their strength as one of the most popular web engines. In the case study they have acquired Summly for about $30 million to have a wide cover of audiences. However, the leadership of the company has been very inconsistent which could have been the cause of poor performance. Mayer as the new CEO has been formulating new methods to increase the visibility of tasks toward old employees as well as hiring new people in making new contents for the website most especially for the news and sports content. Short term goals of the company should be the identification of internal and external problems as well as giving new contents to consumers. The long term goals should be the gaining back of trust from advertisers, propose joint ventures and other activities that would prove their credibility to advertisers.
Conclusion:
The company has been struggling to survive in terms of popularity and revenue. Strategic management has been one of the best solutions to this problem (BSI, 2014). It is a method by which a company will give focus on the analysis of problems and possible revenue outcomes. Moreover, the consistency on leadership must also be withheld by the board of the directors of the company.
