The analysis of this article will be on the Supreme Court of the United States. Information regarding the Supreme Court are obtainable from its website at http://www.supremecourt.gov/. The supreme court was instituted in 1789 by Article II of the Constitution as the highest federal court in United States. The Supreme Court has the ultimate and discretionary jurisdiction in all cases in the United States judiciary including federal courts and state courts cases that involve federal law. Furthermore, the Supreme Court also has original jurisdiction over particular cases. Finally, the Supreme Court also serves as the final interpreter of federal (constitutional) law in United States, but within the boundaries of the case in which it has the requisite jurisdiction.
The Supreme Court of United States composition includes eight associate judges and the Chief Justice, who are appointed by the President, who has the tacit the approval of the Senate that confirms them. The appointed judges enjoy a security of tenure until they retire, resign, take senior status or are impeached. Each of the Justices (judges) has one vote, with most cases being decided unanimously. In the political context, the judges are mainly categorized as having liberal, conservative or moderate view and interpretation of the law. These stances often become apparent in cases that involve ideological or even moral beliefs. It is paramount to note that there has never been an impeachment of a justice from his duties.
The Supreme Courts website as mentioned earlier serves as an important source of information and access to materials regarding the Supreme Court. The site provides the oral arguments of recent cases that are updated daily. The arguments can either be in the text (transcript) format or audio. In addition, all announcements concerning the Supreme Court and its operations are posted on the website. The materials available are numerous including, the end year report of the Federal Judiciary, case documents, court rule and numerous others.
