The control charts display the blood sugars level of a diabetic type 2 patient. The variant is the blood sugars stratified in months to graphically represent the distribution. The data length is five months. Blood sugars level is a continuous variable.
If the variant went out of control, complications triggered by low or high blood sugars levels would set in. The patient uses the chart to keep track of his condition and stave off life threatening situations. Safe blood sugars levels limits on the upper and lower sides were used as the sigma limits.
In the control chart, if blood sugars levels rise or drop beyond the permissible points, this would be was indicated in the graph as an out of control point on either side.
The variations in the mean and upper and lower class limits in the chart were caused by the varying blood sugars levels due to medications given to the patient. In mid September, the patient was subjected to antihistamines which increase the blood sugars level. Two types of antibiotics were also given to the patient in two phases for the treatment of pneumonia. The first phase of antibiotics treatment increased blood sugars while the second round of antibiotics lowered them. The second chart shows the increase in the mean blood sugars levels and the upper and lower class limit.
