The concept of corporate social responsibility is important for the organizations. It involves giving back to the society and is accompanied by elements in both the internal and external environments. There are different arguments for and against the corporate social responsibility. Nevertheless, an organization decides the effective and efficient methods and approaches of ensuring that it is socially corporate to the society (Garriga & Melé, 2004).
Organizations are responsible for employees’ welfare in terms of assistance with the housing finances, extended sick leaves, assistance for dependants, and training among others.
Organizations are socially responsible for the working conditions, including enhancing working conditions, job security and safety, training and development, safety standards, social and sporting clubs, and bonuses.
Organizations should be socially responsible for the designing of jobs to the increased satisfaction of the workers rather than for the economic efficiency.
Business organizations should respect the private knowledge of the individuals and should not claim ownership of their property or knowledge.
Business organizations participate in the creation of problems such as pollution and should be socially responsible for reducing pollution below the legal standards regardless of whether the competitors are doing so. They should also adopt energy saving practices.
Organizations should be responsible for the dangers arising from the careless use of the products by the consumers and develop measures to promote careful use of these products.
Markets and Marketing
Organizations should also be responsible for deciding not to sell in some markets for various reasons. In addition, the organizations have to be responsible for the standards of advertising and promotion.
Organizations should promote fair terms of trade with the suppliers, blacklist ineffective suppliers, and promote supplier relationship through effective and ample payment.
Organizations should promote positive discrimination in favor of the minorities, but offer opportunities as well for the majorities. Organizations should also maintain the jobs in the society and organization.
The community and society give business its business. For this reason, organizations have to sponsor local events and support local good works.
Organizations should respect the human rights in relation to the issues of child labor, workers’ and union rights, and oppressive political regimes. This respect should be directly in both the choice of markets, suppliers, and the partners (Sen & Bhattacharya, 2001).
Boubyan Bank Social Responsibility
This bank promotes its corporate social responsibility by taking a role in the building of the community. The bank envisions having a distinguished approach in the promotion of corporate social responsibility. In order to do so, the bank is involved in a variety of aspects of community service through the introduction of initiatives that facilitate and influence the development of the society. The social responsibility has to be the core of attention for all the employees as well as executives.
The bank has a board of directors that as the supreme role and responsibility of authorizing the adoption of the policy of corporate social responsibility. This board oversees the operations and implementation of the corporate policies and has the responsibility of acting on behalf of the department of corporate communications of the bank. The bank aims to contribute to the development of a society that has the capacity of facing international and regional variables. In order to do so, the bank has promoted and launched various social initiatives, supported events and activities aimed at various segments, especially the young people and those individuals with special needs ("Boubyan Bank :: Social Responsibility," n.d.).
The Big Tree Society is the bank’s most notable initiative launched among all the schools in Kuwait. In addition, from 2009 to the end of 2012, Boubyan Bank sponsored and took part in over 250 varying activities targeting different sectors, for the young people, children, and those with special needs ("Boubyan Bank :: Social Responsibility," n.d.). Corporate social responsibility promotes organizational significance to the region and it enables a firm to develop an initiative towards annihilating the social problems in the environments, whose effects could affect the operations of the firm itself.
