Free Case Study About What Was Wrong With Mr. Main’s Approach In Gathering Data?
How would you initiate your engagement with Valley Medical Center? What are steps you would take as you begin the entry and contracting phase?
If I had an opportunity to engage with Valley Medical Center I would use different methods for that. For entry state I would absorb the information which Robert stated about each priority. I would take notes. For each priority that exists, I would write down pros and cons and use that information in future. On contracting phase I would go to each department and provide different surveys for doctors and nurses, their feedback would really help, as we can analyze, which part in each of the departments is having trouble and need to be fixed.
In considering the case above, where does Valley Medical Center have strengths? Where do they have challenges? What are the critical success factors for the hospital?
Valley Medical Center have strong strengths in commitment to community and patients. The facility is family-oriented, which means they put everything in hard work to make their patients be satisfied with healthcare provided. Valley Medical Center have challenges with complacent. Market share brings that trouble. The other problem that VMC face is lack of focus and accountability. We can point some of the critical success factors, that VMC have: no excuses in team work (everybody swim or sink as a team), leadership team, transformation of the culture and talent to provide professional healthcare.
As an OD practitioner, what recommendations would you make to support Robert in achieving his goals? How would you ensure these are included in contracting progress?
If I was OD practitioner I would focus on management change and culture. From my point of view, there are lack of care workers and physicians in the hospital. Another recommendation would be managing experienced workers to give advice to new one, who don’t have much experience.
Valley Medical Center is experiencing a great deal of change. What recommendations would you make to help them more effectively handle the change they are experiencing?
Reflect on Dr. Michaels first impressions of these two wineries? What do these brief snippets tell you about each organization’s culture?
After her interaction with Mr. Main, what data do you think Dr. Michaels should gather? Why? How would you propose gathering data?
Evaluate difference data-gathering strategies Dr. Michaels used. Create an analysis of each data set: Daily observations, company meeting, employee survey or interview, values exercise, customer surveys.
For daily observations which Dr. Michaels had he came to the idea that Mary and Ann didn’t put much effort. Ann the cashier kept playing on blackberry and Mary never helped to serve the clients when she had an opportunity to. During company meeting, there were only few people who were listening to Mr. Main’s proposal and only one person took notes, others were just drawing or chatting on the phone. Employee survey showed that only one person knew that wine shop is family business and referred to that. Mary pointed was the only person who pointed family on the top 50 word list. Customer survey had better observations, as it gave an opportunity to realize what is exactly missing in the shop or how does it look compared to other shops. It gave the real results.
Create a summary report and list of recommendations for Mr. Main. How would you define and measure the success of those recommendations?
If I had an opportunity to create summary report I would strongly put all pros and cons in this shop. These recommendations would definitely raise family business to its first attempts as some actions will be taken. For example: providing better atmosphere in the shop may attract more clients. Being friendlier to a customer will leave a positive feedback in his mind and he will return to this shop again. Making employees work as they have to is another concern. Some of the workers didn’t pay attention to Mr. Main’s ideas or notes. Some of the workers were negotiating with their responsibilities like playing on the phone instead of working
