Multiple Baseline Designs

Multiple Baseline Designs
In the presented Case pertains to the fact that the multiple baseline technique identifies and evaluate numerous factors to establish the efficacy of the baseline design. The purpose is to analyze the impact of experimental variations / interventions over the behavior to monitor changes and act accordingly. In the particular study of the case of Mrs, Darwin investigation over Steve, the purpose is to monitor the behavioral concerns of the subject with contextual interventions.
The analysis of the adaptation made it obvious that the option of generalization of behavior change grants strength to the approach of multiple baseline design. The primary behavioral issues mentioned in the case study are that of pinching, threatening and gesturing behaviors. The case aims to introduce intervention based multiple baseline design approach to control the disorder. The interventions include the reinforcement of behavioral control and therapeutic strategies. The differential behavior, tactics are coached abiding generality of intervention with the support of behavior modification plan to attain the desired changes. The similarity of setting and situation are controlled to ensure execution of the same influence over the independent variable for authentic and accurate observation.
Thus, the illustrated factor contributed to the functionality of the study by supporting the independent variable with the conceptual framework, hence securing the internal and external validity of the study. However, the component of covariance amongst behavior is the major limitation of the study that instills ambiguity in the evaluation of functional relationship.
The improvement of the study can be made by experimental modification of the environmental concerns and in the design of the training plan by adding some drug supplements (relaxants) in the plan for sustainable behavioral management. This addition in plan is necessary in the plan if the case is intended to proceed towards withdrawal design. Without this control the adaptation of withdrawal design is not suggested keeping in lieu the ethical, legal, and socio cultural considerations associated with this design. In case, the experiment is intended to proceed without the intervention of drug support, the disorder may persist or intensified and become ethically and legally questionable. The subject remains ethically and socially secure with the support of drugs. However, the therapeutic gains are of obvious importance that are to be monitored and controlled further for security of the elements of ethical legal and socio cultural components. In such a case, it is suggested to adopt alternative experimental strategies to eliminate any possibility of covariance. The use of relaxants could be considered as one such intervention. The purpose is to focus over the target methodologically.

Part 2:

The Behavioral Change plan goal is to convert the behavior of 10 year old who kicks, bites, and punches others during recess on the playground into a healthy and friendly conduct with a positive attitude. The target replacement behavior includes the following:

Do not go physical when angry.

Learn to calm down control herself by staying quiet.
Ise words to express her feelings.
In case of need contact the teacher.
If the teacher is not nearer (at a distance) than use signal to call the teacher.
The most appropriate methodology to introduce intervention is to intervene with behavioral introduction skill at baseline level. This includes therapeutic interventions to bring in required changes and targeted behavior. The treatment plan could initiate with the multiple probe design approach. Apparent is the fact that the behavioral disorder is specific to one setting and persists with specific reactions (kicking, biting and punching)
It is believed that the specific situation (such as recess) has the potential to bring in the same reactions of the subject in other alike settings. The use of multiple probe design will ensure to treat and cure one behavioral consideration at a time with the support of intermittent measures.
The treatment plan developed over multiple probe design approach is supposed to be most appropriate for the treatment as it allowed to monitor true base lines and introduce interventions gradually, based over the responses of the instruction that are evident through learned skill sequences.
However, at the later stage of the plan, the treatment could be remodelled for better results. At the age of ten years children have a high learning capacity that makes the shift towards a withdrawal strategy recommendable, Also the ethical, legal and social cultural consideration in this lieu are not the obstacles for progression.
However, the development of true baselines is essential to be constructed for each of the traits (target behavior) of the girl. It will allow to monitor the learning capacity of the girl and develop a shift towards the withdrawal design if the plan does not go along favorably.
An overview of the plan makes it evident that the traditional multiple baseline method is less viable for the treatment because of its obvious limitation. The girl has the edge of the learning capacity that makes the multiple probe design a better option for a strategy. The girl of such a young age is likely to grasp instructions and learn fast. Also the capacity of learning and adapting things is the granted trait of the phase of age. Thus, there are bright chances that the girl will respond well to the multiple probe design and learn to deal with triggers and progressions in particular settings in the later stages of treatment on her own.
