Serving as the 26th president, Teddy Roosevelt helped in promotion of progressivism in United States. In the first quote, Roosevelt was referring to the need to unite socially so as to stand as a nation. Social development would lead to unity thus bringing people together on a common course. The second quote addresses a social problem that existed during the time due to immigration of people into the United States in search of jobs. The main challenge was the fact that the increased supply of labor lowered the general wages in the labor market. Further, Roosevelt recognized the need to amend the laws that were in existence and made them align with the issues that faced the country. The third quote sought to address the issue of racial discrimination and empowerment of people so that they would all be civilized. He recognized that the transformation of the races that were considered to be uncivilized to being civilized would be a gradual process. This is the same as in the concept of Darwinism where the evolution of human species took time to develop their social, political and economic status.
Roosevelt once said that educating a person in the mind and leaving his morals was the same as bringing forth a menace to the society thus the need to promote education and civilization in the society. On the emphasis of patriotism and politics, Roosevelt once said that anyone who migrated into America was supposed to learn English language or else they would leave the country. This is a clear indication that Roosevelt was a racist and at the same time he supported progressivism through advocating the rights of workers and immigrants.
Conclusively, progress has been made since the progressivism era in that; issues like racial discrimination are not as deep as they were then. The development in the labor market has not been much since there are still issues of unemployment and low wages. However, there is still hope of having a society that will not discriminate against the other based on their race.
