Free Good Communicator Vs. Bad Communicator Essay Sample
For this essay, I will choose my mother to be the good communicator and my brother to be the bad communicator. I will present a situation in order to create a case that can be supported with technical communications skills, properly supported and described in details, the abilities of a good communicator vs. a bad communicator.
My mother is good communicator due her authentic skills that she developed during the years. The messages the she transmits are always clear and direct. She is a good listener, she never interrupts you when you talk and she always let you finish your ideas, being patience creating in my opinion an effective listen. Even when she is listening, she is still paying attention on the conversation, not thinking about other stuffs, being always prepared to step into the conversation when the speaker is about to finish or needs an advice.
When she gives you an advice, she is always authentic, not pretending to be something that she isn’t filtering in her minds, the situation that you presented and offering advices for her own experiences. When you present her a delicate situation, she keeps her mind clear, being open also to other points of view and being open to understand also situation that she wouldn’t consider normal or which she never went there or do that kind of things. She keeps a balance over her emotions; a conversation can sometimes be emotional but never over-emotional. When she talks, she is positive or neutral to the person which she discus, never trying to attack the other person.
Compared to my mother, my brother in my opinion is a bad communicator. One possibility of this situation can be the difference of age. Mu mature is a mature person, who went t life and gained some sort of life experience and learned how to behave but my brother is still young, in his teenage year, maybe scared and still trying to find a way to connect with the world. He is always wearing a mask when he speaks; upholding an image or creating a wall to protect his real thought and feelings. In this sense, the communication can be built only on a superficial level. My brother is always talking but he is never willing to listen or when he listen is just staying quiet, nodding his head but thinking at other stuff, even sometimes when he remember something, he will interrupt you in the middle of your ideas just to tell you about his priorities.
The messages that my brother is trying to communicate are always ambiguous or garbled. He can’t be clear and sometimes is really hard to understand what he really wants or where he wants to go with that idea. He is always judgmental, supporting only his point of view, being enabled to receive and understand other opinions, even maybe they are better. He is stuck in his own world. If the conversation, turn into a fight, my brother become over-emotional, no longer being able to control what he is saying, his thoughts are coming out of his mind without any selection, sometimes hurting the people that he loves because he is not thinking clear at the moment. Even worst, the over-emotional people are not able to control their actions, and this could turn in a really bad situation. Due to the comparison made above, presented both cases from my family, I hope I made it clear how the differences between a good communicator vs. a bad communicator are and I also think that people can learn how to change and improve their bad communication skills.
