Success in an organization does not come by default. There are several initiatives that every organization that hopes to be successful and that hopes to be in operation in the long term must enact. Simply put, the organization must have a plan to succeed. This plan must comprise of several key components that work in harmony to facilitate success. The five most basic components of this plan include the organization’s vision, mission, objectives, strategy, and tactics. An organization, whereby all these components are well aligned, is bound to succeed.
As an organization, McDonalds has a properly defined vision, mission and objectives. In addition, the organization is guided by a set of core values. McDonalds;’ also has a comprehensive strategy and tactics that it uses to achieve its objectives. Throughout its existence, the organization has shown its commitment to accomplishing its strategic and financial objectives. The strategy of the company has guided it in becoming an outstanding enterprise that’s is admired all across the globe.
The organization is committed to attaining full product efficiency, quick and efficient service to customers and growth and expansion across the world (McDonalds, n.d). This strategy has its foundation on creating a deep connection with the customers and is implemented through the five primary business drivers, and these are products, people, price, promotion, and place. Since the company was incented, it has been relentless in trying to actualize its strategy. For the most part, the company has been successful as proven by the fact that’s is one of the most successful organization not just in the fast food industry but actually across all industrial fields.
In terms of vision, the organization seeks to be the world’s best quick service restaurant (Arndt, 2007). According to McDonalds, being the best essentially entails availing outstanding quality of food, services, value and cleanliness and making sure that every client leaves the store smiling. The organization has exemplified deep commitment towards achieving this vision. For example, MacDonald’s is constantly re-inventing its offers and introducing new servings as well as introducing new standards and guidelines for its customer service (McDonalds, n.d). This is one aspect that has propelled it towards a leadership position. In addition, McDonald’s is constantly evaluating its systems and tools to check if they are oriented towards the achievement of its vision. By doing this, the organization is made to identify areas that require adjustment or improvement to ensure that the vision of the company is achieved.
McDonald’s mission is aligned with its vision. Its mission statement states that the organization seeks to be the best employer for people from each community across the world and to deliver operational excellence to customers in every restaurant (Arndt, 2007). Additionally, McDonalds, seeks to achieve lasting profitable growth by expanding its brand through leveraging its strengths via technology and innovation. Once again, the actions of the organization show its deep commitment towards this mission. For instance, in each of the communities where it operates, the organization gives preference to local people when it comes to employment.
Additionally, the organization has continuously invested in innovation and technology to boost its delivery of services, for instance, the introduction of cashless payment. This an exhibition of the fact that the company is not afraid of change and is indeed eager to adopt new means of operations and production in order to stay relevant. This is very important because in a world that is hugely dynamic, the only way a company can survive and indeed stay relevant is by adapting to change. Adjusting to dynamics is all part of the company’s plans to achieve excellence which is itself one of the elements of the organization’s mission.
McDonalds’ is also guided by a set of core values that are once again part of its wider strategy. The first and most important of these core values is the placement of the customer’s experience at the center of everything. Good customer experience means everything to McDonald’s whether in terms of product quality or services (McDonalds, n.d). The organization is constantly conducting evaluation of customer experiences to determine areas that can be improved to boost overall customer experience.
The other core value that is part of McDonald’s wider strategy is commitment to the people. The organization provides opportunities, nurtures talent, develop managers and leaders and appropriately rewards achievement. The organization believes that a team comprised of well-trained individuals who are from diverse backgrounds and who have diverse experiences and who work in an environment that fosters and promotes respect is crucial to continued organizational success.
Another core value that guides organization is ethics. The company has established a code of conduct that guides all organization operations. In addition, all stakeholders in the organization hold themselves and indeed conduct their business to high standards of honesty, integrity and fairness.
It is clear that McDonalds is an organization with a well-defined strategy, vision and mission, objectives and key values. A great commitment by the organization to aligning all these elements and ensuring that they are achieved has played a primary role in propelling it to the leadership status it enjoys when it comes to the fast food industry.
