"Acquainted with the Night" by Robert Frost is written in simple words that are easy to follow and understand. However, reading the poem makes one feel the loneliness of the poet. The narrator is clearly sad and lonely, and it shows in the way he talks about his feelings and emotions or what is going through his mind.
The very title of the poem makes you think about the poem as “Acquainted” word here is used in the “Night”. Generally, one gets acquainted with a fact or person and not something like Night. Thus, it shows that the title of the poem itself is unusual and made cautiously (Robert Frost).
The darker hours of the night and walking in the rain in the deserted streets speak of the sadness and loneliness felt by the poet.

In the above line, the poet is walking alone with no aim, and even when comes across a watchman, he does not feel like making any contact with him. This is clear by his gesture of dropping his eyes as he is in no mood to talk to him. Even when he makes eye contact with the watchman, he does not feel motivated to come out of his isolation. The moon is like a luminary clock against the sky but for him time holds no value.
The “night” in the poem stands for frustration and depression. When the narrator says that he has outwalked the furthest lights, he means he has given up all hopes. The weather is rainy, and this adds to his sadness and gloom (Tien).
The poem that describes the narrator’s complete isolation and it is interesting to see Frost use the term “I” several times in the poem. The cry from another street does not stir any feelings in him, and he keeps walking. It seems that the narrator has experienced a sad experience recently and is still tormented by it.
