Good Example Of One Policy Of Obama Report
Appreciation and criticism of policies formulated by US President Barack Obama forms the basis of this report. I agree to his policy about “Support network neutrality on the Internet”. It is praiseworthy for the Obama administration to have acknowledged the power of the digital age. The US is a melting pot of various cultures and instigating the use of technology for everyone has made the country an epitome of success. I totally agree with this policy as it correctly identifies the way for sustenance of a democracy. The US is not reeling under any communist or religious pressure. It encourages public right to information and exchange of diverse viewpoints. The policy supports a free society and this liberal stance will be further boosted with net connection all over the country and across all sectors. Several scholars have portrayed the American government to be unique since its early phases of development, and this policy reaffirms the government’s solidarity towards its citizens.
In his Presidential Announcement Speech, Obama acknowledged the necessity of an internet-driven generation for a better performance in the health, education and scientific sector. He identified the power of technology and the potential of free exchange of information through an open Internet. The web has full efficiency in resolving several issues plaguing the nation like improvising clean energy, healthcare costs, and public safety. He urged about protecting the openness of the Internet (The Office of the President). Net neutrality refers to maintaining impartiality for all websites. Preferential boosting of internet speed by service providers isn’t allowed. The service providers can't block access or slow down access to legal content (Carroll).
However, I disagree with “End the war in Afghanistan in 2014” policy. According to this policy, the President assumes that terminating military upheavals in Afghanistan will be another successful conclusion after withdrawal of troops from Iraq. The US has been at war with Afghanistan for over 13 years. Equation between the US and Afghanistan was destroyed after the 9/11 attack. But, in order to restore normalcy in the country, the longest war in American history will be responsibly ended (Carroll).
President Obama has made several unjustifiable decisions and this is one of them. Withdrawal of troops from Iraq has led to the biggest disaster in recent times. From Mosul in Iraq to Raqqa in Syria; Middle East and Western Asia is succumbing to the terror of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). It has become impossible for the US to control the Islamic State militants. If troops are withdrawn from Afghanistan, similar fate awaits for the Afghanistan citizens. Al-Qaeda and Taliban already have a strong foothold in the country. And, now there are Islamic State sympathizers as well. Terrorism will multiply after this policy is implemented to its full effect. Bringing democracy in Afghanistan is more difficult than it appears. Cravings for democracy in several countries like Libya, Syria, Tunisia and Egypt, yielded disastrous results. Owing to rising instability in the political arena, terrorist groups find it easy to loot and ransack significant regions. The traditional approach towards targeting “War on Terror” is now futile. Once the US troops leave Afghanistan, the chain of terror links that involve ISIS and its allegiance, Boko Haram will siege prominent Islamic countries. Obama’s effort in safeguarding the lives of journalists and aid workers from terror groups have gone in vain. He is all set to make similar mistakes once again.
