In the past, obesity with children was never much of an issue as it was only adults who faced this condition, however now it is a serious condition amongst children and is increasing at a very quick rate. The reasons for obesity are far-fetched, of course, but the main and most important reason remains the unhealthy and fat-enriched diet that is consumed by children in large amounts on a regular basis. The question arises as to how to children come to know of these foods and wish to consume them so eagerly. The answer to that is the eye-catching and attractive advertising done by various brands and companies for selling and popularizing their goods amongst the masses. As much as adults who get attracted to various products displayed in advertisements, children are the bigger victims of advertisements and what they offer. Hence, advertisements that provoke and tempt children to consume unhealthy, fatty foods need to be banned.
It has been observed that on many channels that children like to watch such as cartoons and movies contain many commercial breaks with most of them being with junk food, sweets, chocolates and cereal that is harmful to children especially those who already love food and cannot control the temptation to consume that food.
Frequently, advertisements about various soft drinks, hamburgers, ice cream, pizza, fried chicken and whatnot appear on screen and their tempting advertising makes children wish to have them for which they constantly ask and plead their parents. The issue is that while some parents control their children, many succumb to their wishes and let their children consume food that is extremely harmful to their health especially if they are obese. The end result is simple- children keep desiring for more junk food and grow overweight or obese, and the way back to normal is a tough one.
Therefore, advertising for such foods needs to be banned knowing that its audience is a vulnerable one and advertising should be carefully monitored to be in the best interest of the public, not just for the company itself.
