Discrimination is a serious issue that may have a significant impact on different spheres of people’s lives all over the world. Discrimination can happen based on different indicators, such as race, religion, sex, genetic heritage. Discrimination based on disability is also a crucial aspect of those who can suffer from it and those who perform it. In order to eliminate any possible discriminations connected to disabilities, the government issued The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in the Year 1990. This act represent the law for different institutions and organizations, and covers people with disabilities in various areas of their living, such as education, employment, health care, transportation, and even public television. ADA covers individuals with various types of disability and its main purpose is to improve their level of living to facilitate their day-to-day activities, and to raise awareness within the society (Adata.org).
The Americans with Disabilities act had some changes that came into power in the beginning of 2009. Initially, ADA represented a public law, but further, after all the changes the government published the act in the United States Code. ADA is divided into titles and chapter, each of which covers specific subjects of matter (Ada.gov).
As far as The Americans with Disabilities Act covers various spheres of living, there are several major sections in this law. Certain government institutions regulate the sections according to the sphere of the operations. Thus, Department of Labor is responsible for the absence of disability discrimination in all the types of state and local government services, and is ensuring that there are equal labor opportunity for everyone. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, in turn, focuses on providing equality for all people in terms of employment and takes care that all of the organizations act according to this act in all of working areas, such as hiring, promotion, and compensation. Another organization is The Department of Transportation, and the members of this department control all the regulations that are connected to public transportation: they are in charge of imposing rules to accommodate transport and provide necessary assistance according to ADA requirements in order to bring comfort for individuals with disabilities. Moreover, it is also crucial to regulate telecommunication services, because people with different types of disabilities may face problem in this aspect of life. Thus, the Federal Communications Commission imposes rules on various telecommunication organizations, raising awareness about disability and preventing any potential discrimination. One more is the Department of Justice, and this organization is making sure that all of the public accommodations and various services comply with the regulations and that there is no discrimination based on disability in these areas. In addition, the Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board, or Access Board, carries the responsibility for issuing regulations for different types of facilities, so that there are appropriate tools built in the buildings in safety purposes for the usage of people with disabilities (Adata.org, Dol.gov).
Therefore, the Americans with Disabilities Act plays a crucial role in the life of the community, providing regulations for the society and institutions, and offering benefits for those who have disabilities. All the governmental organizations have to follow the guidelines and impose necessary regulations on various spheres of life. As the result of thorough work, ADA brought significant improvements for the lives of individuals with disability, raising awareness and preventing any kind of discrimination for them.
