As result family, relatives, friends sometimes are left behind, and we can’t be next to them and communicate as often as it once was. No one cares whether one likes such situations or not, alas, such are the demands of modernity.
Fortunately, with the rapid development of technology, this problem no longer seems to be so overwhelming and frightening. A hundred years ago people could keep in touch at a distance only via letters, and later came the phone, then we shifted to the communication via e-mails, but today we have a whole arsenal of communications, including video chat, when you don’t just hear the caller's voice, but also see him.
There has been written a lot of researches on video chat and I just have read three of them and each study permeates idea of ​​the importance of this area of ​​communication. Morgan G. Ames in his article “Making Love in the Network Closet: The Benefits and Work of Family Videochat” described his observations of 22 diverse families and the highest attention was paid to kids and old people as they turn to have more problems with video chats than adults have. I fully support the authors, because I am sure that the termination of communication with family and loved ones - is one of the worst mistakes of mankind. We can’t forget our roots or simply loved ones under any pretext, and even if there is no opportunity to see each other live, you should at least make video chats a family tradition, so not to lose the connection with the ancestors.
I also support the idea of ​​doing a video chat during important life events such as childbirth, graduation, wedding and so on. I assume that today the quality of video communication don’t always keep up with our growing needs, but you must admit that it's better your grandma sees and hears newborn grandson with some stray than miss it at all and see him, in the best case, already turned one year old kid.
At the same time I wouldn’t want video chat to replace totally live meetings. I wouldn’t want to hear from children something like "Why should we go to Grandma's? We saw and talked to her yesterday on Skype."
