Competition for land and resources led Americans into multiple civil wars. The wars were mostly between the American settlers and the natives of North America. European colonialists were determined to push the natives northwards and westwards. As their population grew, the battles became even fiercer as the need for more resources engaged the different parties in the wars. European colonialists used the natives to fight against the settles. The United States government developed a policy of removing Indians from the land. The Indians on the other hand were not ready to move, which broke up in a war that is commonly referred t us the American frontier. The war led to deaths of both the Indians and Americans, with the Indians being the most that were killed. As colonialists settled in and the British demanded for a share in the American soil, they found a soft spot in the Indians (Billington, & Ridge, 2001). With a series of civil wars, the British prepared to protect their territories by equipping the Indians, who would in turn help them fight the Native Americans and minimize on their further expansion.
With a series of wars and population growth, there was need for new tactics to be employed to suppress the expansion of Native Americans. Native Americans were given various options to be expelled from their region or be expelled from their land. They were Promised Land elsewhere if they complied with the demands they were given. The fight was the fertile land pastures and the central place for business. The decision that was accompanied by many offers pleased a group of natives who were ready to give up their membership and be relocated to a different place. However, the decision received heavy resistance from a section of natives and more especially the Seminoles, who engaged the settlers in a fierce battle. The Seminoles were not ready to give up their heritage and ancestral land and hence making the decision to fight back. During the American Revolution, there were two parallel wars, one against the British and the other against the Indians (Breen, Williams & Frederickson, 2002 p. 236). This hence divided the Americans on which wars to dedicate their energies. Each group was driven by personal interests and hence giving the British and the Indians to gang up against the Americans.
Life in the newly settled west was not easy for the natives, who faced a lot of resistance from the settlers. As the American’s expanded to the west, they were faced by a series of wars even as they were met with hostile communities that were not ready to give up their land. The British and the Indians moved in support of the settlers with the hope that they will stop the Americans from expanding. However, America had a well trained army that enabled them fight and conquer most of the wars. However, most of the soldiers died because of infections, brought about the changes in climatic conditions that were harsh for them. With frequent wars, there was serious food crisis that most probably helped the Americans in conquering the western region. Compared to the settles that depended on their agricultural products for food, the American soldiers had a steady supply of food, medicine and equipment (Turner, 2010). The settlers most probably gave up on the war because they were too weak to fight as well as succumbing to illness there brought about by the war.
