Good Person Vs Stereotype Essay Example
Each person walking on the face of the earth has a distinct personality. The respective personality of any human being will fall in any one of the specific category also known as stereotypes. These types may be categorized on the basis of gender or race. There are certain characteristics, which are specifically being associated with the gender types or certain race types. Whenever one comes across any of the categories, the automatic image of that very stereotype appears in the subconscious mind. This paper is intended to compare and contrast the qualities of stereotype with my personality.
A study performed by Katz and Braly (1933) is considered to be an important milestone for comparison of my personality with the stereotypes. Comparing one’s personality to any specific stereotype is not an issue. In fact, almost 70%-80% of the personality characteristics of all human beings match or overlap. Americans are deemed to be intelligent, and black people are usually more inclined towards music. Thus, while coordinating, the stereotype image will help me to respond back more quickly by taking help of the subconscious mind (Parsons, 2008).
Another true fact is that neither all qualities of a person will match the stereotype nor all personalities will react in a same predictive way. Each personality will tend to think individually, however, the basic frame of thinking will remain the same.
The conclusion from this discussion can be perceived that each individual falls into a specific category type known as stereotypes, but not all characteristics of human personality will match that very stereotype. Minor variations may prevail, but overall the personalities will in fit that frame.
