The crusades had been viewed as the fight between Christian and Muslims for spreading Christian religion. However, no truth exist in it. Conversely to the famously known perspective that Crusades moment started in order to get their control over Arabs lands along with converting Muslims into Christians, as a matter of fact, they were simply defensive schemes initiated by the European countries. The efforts done by Crusaders gobbled up around 70% of Europe in an era when the ill impacts of Dark Ages (for around 300 years) did not vanish.
There is no denying that, Crusaders initiated this plan as a contradictory response to Islam, as it was this common belief that proved to be the unification glue among European nations in order to fight against all the odds, together. However, this was not their sole purpose. The primary reason that caused it to look like this was a war that held between Muslims and Christians in Jerusalem and the Holy locations in Palestine. It is also essential to deem that, the City of Jerusalem had a Holy importance in the Christianity as well that proved to be the catalyst for this war. The Holy Sepulcher Church in Jerusalem memorialized the Christ’s burial tomb as well as the hill of crucifixion. Even though, Jerusalem was in control of the Saracens, still, the Christian visitors and pilgrims were always offered a safe passage in order to come to the Holy City.
However, when Turks occupied Jerusalem in 1065, more than 300 Christian pilgrims were slaughtered and those left were treated so insanely that throughout the Christian communities around the world, people stirred in order to take their revenge and fight in the Crusades. These wars continued for centuries spoiling the blood of millions. However, they carried it on with the ambitions to defeat oppositeness of Christianity and to safeguard their Holy Land, not just to eliminate Muslims. Hence, this turned out to be the vital reason how they got their hold over the society.
