The sentiments aired in the last video that maybe all the public safety and social problems are solved by incarceration in America is true. By the look of things, all minor offenders who violate the social and public safety of all inhabitants of this country are punished by putting them in prisons. This is depicted by the number of prisoners in the United States. It is critical to comprehend that the United States has the largest prison population compared to any other country in the world. The trend of incarcerating people with drug related problems is so rampant that there are more unsolved cases on rape as many of those apprehended are drug users.
It is therefore important that we reevaluate the criminal system in our country to ensure that the petty offenders go through better correction systems and ensure they are better citizens in the near future. Amongst the highest population of the incarcerated people in the United States are imprisoned merely on the possession and not using the drugs. In addition, the existing statistics indicate that approximately 500,000 Americans are incarcerated any given night due to a violation of the drug violation. This statistics indicate how the addicted the law enforcers of the states are to incarceration as a means of solving all social and public safety issues that arise amongst the population.
There are other ways that the justice system of our country can use to deal with the non-violent drug offenders. One way that would be very beneficial to the offenders would be the option of rehabilitation. This involves taking the offenders to correction centers where they get the advice they require to help them quit their habits of drug using and trafficking. Rehabilitation also reduces the extents of use of the drugs in question and ensures that the users appreciate the benefits of living a free drug live. In addition, rehabilitation tries to bring the offenders to their senses and alert them of the wrong doing that they have perpetrated.
Probation and parole are other ways that may be used to correct the non-violent drug offenders. Those affected may be put on probation where they are monitored closely by the police and other general administrators. The monitoring will entail ascertaining if the affected have quit their drug use habits or if they have stopped trafficking altogether. Parole is also another option. If the offenders depict positive behavior and they promise to change once out of prison, the legal system can incorporate this in regard to non-violent offenders. These offenders are known to pose low threat to the society upon release and this makes it possible for them to get a release earlier than stipulated.
There are many reasons why there exists a discrepancy amongst the numbers of the Americans, blacks and Hispanics arrested on cases of reported drug use. Despite the fact that Americans use drugs more than any other community, members of other community are more likely to be apprehended for the use of drugs if arrested. One major reason for this is discrimination. The people of other communities are more likely to be discriminated and apprehended for use or possession of drugs than Americans. The biasness of the law enforcers who only get to make arrests to the Latinos and blacks and leave out Americans due to discrimination makes it hard to fight for linear sentences to small drug offenders.
