Contrast the difference between groups and high-performing teams

A high-performance team is a group of people with roles, talents and skills, and who constantly demonstrate high-level of performance and innovation and produce excellent results. The high-performance teams are focused on their goals, and they are dedicated to their main goal and purpose. In the high-performance teams, the team members are highly skilled and are able to exchange each other’s role. It means that the team members are committed to promoting each other’s success and growth as well. On the other hand in the group, no significant or high-performance is required. The members of the group interact only to share information with each other, share different concepts. This helps them to make decisions for their own individual level performance within their field. A general group does not require the need for team participation and approaches or accountability for each other (Robbins, 2013).
If the task requires simple work accomplishes choosing a group with the nominal skill set would do for the company, but if the task requires highly specialized tasks where the employees need to be highly skilled and truly dependent upon each other to complete the task the best team to form is the high-performance team. In the high-performance team, every employee will bring their own specialized skill set in order to make the collective outcome of the project successful. On the contrary, in the workgroup, each employee will have similar skill sets and simply will be providing services to the clients or accomplishing the workload. The amount of effort can be expanded by expanding the workgroups, but it does not necessarily increase the skill sets (Robbins, 2013).
Another major difference between the work groups and the high-performance team is that in work group each member is responsible for their own work, and any success or failure has taken on an individual level. On the other hand, in a high-performance team there is a joint effort, and whether the project fails or succeed, the entire team is held accountable for it and not just an individual. The high-performance team requires a lot of collaboration and maintenance effort as they work on the high-level tasks their performance and progress needs continuous monitoring. On the other hand, the work groups work on relatively easier projects so do not require maintenance effort from the top management except some occasional conflict resolution issues (Robbins, 2013).

How these components contribute to the team’s success

These components will dramatically impact the team’s success. Since the high-performance team has a common purpose and goal, it strives to achieve the project will be successful, or at least will ensure that every team member has demonstrated his or hell skill sets in the project. This not only motivates the employees more, but also lead to the team as well as the organization’S success. The concept of being highly accountable in high-performance team is another indicator of team’s success because the employees hardly blame each other for any mistake or failure of tasks, and the entire team is responsible for the success or failure of the project.
On the other hand, since the work groups employ team members will similar skill set the level of competition rises. With the rising level of competition, each individual tends to perform better than the other team member and the productivity level increases. If the leadership is better able to handle and promote healthy competition, it will give rise to opportunities and enhanced skill set that can help in converting the groups in high-performance teams.

Value in having diverse team in criminal justice system

The value of having a diverse team in the criminal justice system is immense. The criminal justice system that mainly involved law enforcement officials – people who have the duty to protect and serve the people from every background need to have value developed and prior understanding of diverse cultural groups and how to deal with it. For this, it is important that they deal with diverse work teams within the organization. Even though every country is enriched with diverse cultures and ethnic groups, it is important for the criminal justice system agencies to deal efficiently with the citizens. This requires that diverse teams are formed that are able to relate directly to people belonging to different diverse cultures. Once the diverse teams are formed in the criminal justice system, it will reduce the risk of an ethical violation, prejudices with other diverse groups and the teams will refrain from acting on any biased because they will have team members belonging to that culture in the team (Kania, 2012).

Conclusion

The high-performance teams are focused on their goals, and they are dedicated to their main goal and purpose. In the high-performance teams, the team members are highly skilled and are able to exchange each other’s role. It means that the team members are committed to promoting each other’s success and growth as well. On the other hand in the group, no significant or high-performance is required. The members of the group interact only to share information with each other, share different concepts.
