America is one of the countries in the world that have extensive social services aimed at providing healthcare to all its citizens. It has elaborate healthcare cover in both Medicaid and Medicare both of which are aimed at provision of healthcare insurance to the needy Americans. This paper describes Medicare, Medicaid, and other two insurance bodies, albeit shortly.
Medicaid is social healthcare program that targets the poor people in America. It is thus a government sponsored program that seeks to make sure that people with low or insufficient income to afford healthcare insurances are insured. The poor people are requested to apply in order to join the scheme (Medicaid, n.d.). One is eligible for Medicaid if one has high medical bills, receives supplemental security incomes, and meets certain financial criteria established. In addition to that, there are different categories that receive different levels of the insurance.
Medicare on the other hand is a social security that offers free or subsidized treatment by professional healthcare workers. It also includes free accommodation and treatment in public hospitals. It also pays up to 75% to the private hospitals. It also has some agreements with other countries for reciprocal treatment like Australia. Medicare has signed an agreement to offer healthcare for New Zealand, UK, Sweden, Netherlands, Italy, Slovenia, Malta, and Italy citizens (Medicare Services, n.d.).
There are other healthcare insurance providers, such as the BlueCross BlueShiled healthcare insurance providers. The BlueCross BlueShield healthcare insurance is among the oldest insurers that are accepted by over 90% of the doctors in over fifty states (BlueCross BlueShield, n.d). It is only for those who can afford to pay for healthcare insurance all by themselves. The other healthcare insurance is the UnitedHealthcare. It is a subscription for only those who can afford to pay for health insurances. It has different levels depending on the ability of the person.
