Caruth Unclaimed Experience

In the book, the author says that the pain that is experienced by an individual is bound to reoccur time and again. This is because, those enduring the pain had no control it. The author termed it as unconscious act of infliction the injury that is not wished for repetition. The author comes with the idea of Tancred, which calls for the original meaning of trauma. As defined by Freud, trauma referred to trauma as a wound that is inflicted in the mind of an individual. Trauma cannot be located in the simple violent; or rather, the original event in an individual is past but in a much-unassimilated nature.

A reflection

According to the author of this article, it is well depicted here that individuals undergo through some pain, of which the cause of the pain undetermined by them. Since the Individual cannot determine the cause of the pain, he or she cannot get rid of that pain. There are also chances that such kind of pain is capable of reoccurring repeatedly.

Ray introduction

In this article, the author talks of the movement after a hit and he refers to it as to what the psychoanalytic theory calls it as mourning. He also talks of trauma as being a type damage that marks the limit of conventionalized, assimilable experience. He also points out that the missed encounter and its meaning can only be reconstructed in the retrospect. He says that the kind of reconstruction that one makes and its eventual assimilation may in turn be true, but in the other case, it will not be the restoration of a fictional integrity or rather subjective plenitude. The author also points out that time is money. He says that the time of mourning always lags behind the time for decision-making. We therefore have no reason to waste the time given to us.

Reflection

As the author states, mourning, which he defines it as a movement after a hit. This can also be compared to trauma since it is an internal pain that is inflicted in our mind. It is true that time is money. For this reason, it is not always a must to mourn to some events since that time could have been spent on doing something else constructive.

Stallings Methods of Disaster Research

In the article, Dennis points out that it is very hard to distinguish disaster research from the general sociological enterprise. While studying disaster, this is much different with the normal study of quantitative research or survey research. The distinguishing factor that differentiates disaster research with the survey or quantitative research is the circumstance in which the other conventional methods are employed. The context of research is what differs and makes disaster research unique and not its method of research. When taking an empirical study of disaster phenomena, discussion of data collection or data analysis is important to be included.

A reflection.

Study of disaster research is always a complex activity just as the author points out. The is because, disaster research the approach of the research might not be as straight forward as that of other types of research which includes survey research or quantitative research. The circumstance in this case plays a major distinguishing factor in this context. Furthermore, method used in the research also differs.
