The picture tries to attract our attention on one of the most important issues of modern society. This issue is about the contamination of nature that appears to be the human environment and is one of the oldest problems in the history of civilization. The picture is full of logic, reason and proof. It shows time capsule that symbolizes how global warming and pollution affects our planet Earth.
The picture motivates us to find the solution of such an important issue, and in order to resolve the issue it is appropriate to know the background of the problem. For a very long period of time people have been considering the environment primarily as a source of resources, seeking to achieve independence from it, to improve the conditions of its existence. While population and the scale of production was small, and very extensive natural spaces, to achieve the goals we were willing to sacrifice some of the untouched nature, exactly as some degree of purity and water.
The picture warns us that understanding our world, as something unlimited cannot continue indefinitely. For example, it is estimated that each year for every person in the world it is up to 8 tons of waste: 95% of them is industrial waste and 5% is household waste.
As the economies of scale of its environmental consequences has become more serious and widespread problem, and the natural space is continuously getting reduced. Therefore, at the present level of development of the productive forces of human society activity affects the biosphere as a whole. So we put the question: what causes human industrial activity? How to prevent or eliminate its negative consequences?
For me this picture is the source for plenty of rather controversial emotions. The picture reaches its goal to motivate us to be responsible in regard to saving our planet. After looking at this picture it is almost impossible not to fall into details.
Atmospheric air is the most important life-supporting natural environment and is a mixture of gases and aerosols, atmospheric boundary layer, developed in the course of evolution of the Earth, human activities and located outside of residential, industrial and other facilities that is why in this lecture this issue received more attention. Ecological studies, both in United States of America and abroad clearly indicate that the contamination of surface atmosphere is the most powerful, permanent factor of human exposure, the food chain and the environment. Atmospheric air has unlimited capacity and plays the role of the most mobile, chemically aggressive and pervasive agent interaction near the surface components of the biosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere. In recent years, data were obtained on a significant role for the biosphere preservation of the ozone layer of the atmosphere, absorbing detrimental to living organisms solar ultraviolet radiation and forming at altitudes of about 40 km thermal barrier that protects the cooling of the earth's surface. The air of homes and work areas is of great importance due to the fact that people spend much of their time here.(Hirschmann, 12)
The atmosphere has an intense impact not only on humans and biota, but also on the hydrosphere, soil and vegetation, the geological environment, buildings and other man-made objects. Therefore, protection of air and ozone layer is the highest priority of all environmental problems and appears to be the issue that attracts attention to all developed countries. Contaminated ground atmosphere causes lung cancer, throat and skin, central nervous system disorders, allergy and respiratory diseases, birth defects, and many other diseases, the list of which is determined by the present, air pollutants and their joint impact on the human body. The results of special studies carried out in United States of America and abroad have shown that between health and air quality there is a close relationship.(Hirschmann, 15)
Water is one of the most important life-supporting natural environments, formed as a result of the evolution of the Earth. It is part of the biosphere and has a number of anomalous properties that affect ecosystems occurring in the physical, chemical and biological processes. These properties are very high and the highest among liquid heat capacity, heat of fusion and heat of vaporization, surface tension, solvency and the dielectric constant and transparency. In addition, the water is characterized by increased migration capacity, which is important for its interaction with the neighboring environment. The aforementioned properties determine potential water accumulation in the possibility of its very high amounts of a wide variety of contaminants, including pathogenic microorganisms. Due to the continuously increasing pollution of surface waters groundwater are virtually the only source of drinking water supply of the population. Therefore, their protection from pollution and depletion, rational use are of strategic importance.(Raven and Berg, 27)
The situation is exasperated by the fact that potable underground water table is at the top, the most susceptible to contamination of the artesian basins and other hydro-geological structures, and rivers and lakes make up only 0.019% of the total water volume. Water is of good quality is required not only for drinking and household needs, but also for many industries. Risk of contamination of groundwater is that under earth's hydrosphere (especially artesian basins) is a finite reservoir of accumulation of pollutants both surface and deep origin. Long-term, in many cases, irreversible pollution has drainage basins of the land. Especially dangerous is the contamination of drinking water micro-organisms that are pathogenic and can cause outbreaks of epidemic diseases among different populations and animals. Practice has shown that the main cause of the epidemic is the most use of virus infection, germs oxen for drinking and other purposes. Human exposure water with high concentrations of heavy metals and radionuclides are shown in the section on these environmental pollutants.(Raven and Berg, 25)
A similar situation exists with groundwater contamination by organic substances. This is due to the fact that the underground hydrosphere incapable oxidation large mass of organic matter entering it. The consequence of this is that pollution hydrogeochemical systems gradually become irreversible.
