Introduction
Democracies thrive because they have legal systems that have embedded guarantees that individuals and institutions do not abuse their power. One such democratic tool is the doctrine of separation of powers. This doctrine place emphasis on the independence and the distinction between institutions, such as the executive, the legislative and the judiciary, so that no one institution can overrun or overwhelm the others.
