Abstract
HPV-associated cancers are caused by HPV, which is a non-enveloped double stranded DNA virus that is ubiquitous in nature. It attacks the squamous epithelial cells present in the mucous membranes of the body. The virus manifests itself as benign warts or as malignant cancers. Some of the cancers caused by HPV are HPV-associated squamous cell cancer of the head and neck (HNSCC), cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), penile intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN), anal intraepithelial neoplasia (AIN) and oropharyngeal cancer.
