We will be addressing the problem of environmental justice. Environmental justice refers to the meaningful involvement and fair treatment of all individuals in developing, implementing, and enforcing environmental laws, policies and regulations. Environmental justice is significant because knowledge on the upholding of environmental justice will enable everyone to enjoy a similar level of protection from the environmental hazards.
We used three articles for the study. The first study was “Pursuing Environmental Justice": The Distributional Effects of Environmental Protection” by Richard Lazarus. In this article, the policy of environmental protection has been concerned with almost exclusively two basic issues. The fist issue is on the accepted levels of pollution while the second is on the kinds of the legal rules suited for reducing pollution to these accepted levels.
The second article was “Inequalities, Inequities, Environmental Justice in Waste Management and Health” by Francesco Forastiere, Francesco Metis, and Marco Martuzzi. In this article, the scientific evidence on the health effects of exposure that is waste-related is not inclusive. The differential exposure to wastes by the socio-economic status is usually documented. Nevertheless, the existing interplay between the social and environmental factors that are crucial for the making of policies is unknown.
The third article was “The Rise of the Environmental Justice Paradigm: Injustice Framing and the Social Construction of Environmental Discourses” by Taylor Dorceta. In this article, the theory of social movement is used to analyze the rhetoric of the environmental injustice. The article argues that the frame of the environmental justice is a master frame that employs different discourse concerning injustice effective tools of mobilization. This article identifies a paradigm of environmental justice and compares it to the emergent environmental paradigm. Additionally, it discusses the reasons for the fast growth of the environmental paradigm and its adherents to finding the frame of the environmental justice appealing.
