Middle aged children are considered to be the most neglected and assumed in the society. Their position in birth makes them less responsible and loved. Middle children find themselves acquiring habits and behaviors that nobody seems to care whether they are right or wrong. Most parents pay attention to the first born children, to ensure that they are responsible. This is dome with the aim of influencing their followers to equally live responsible lives. Last born on the other hand are considered to be fragile, and are hence treated as babies even when they grow up. The middle children are usually left in the care of the first born, who are supposed to influence them, as the parents concentrate on the first and last born. In the long run, the middle children are left all alone. The fist born that are left with the responsibility of taking care of them get engrossed in pleasing their parents by setting the passé but not necessarily give the personalized attention to their middle siblings.
It is due to the neglect that the middle children grow in that they acquire some characters and habits that affect their growth and future life. There is a difference in the characters acquired by middle children, basing on their gender. Boys tend to care less about the attention they are given, even though they need. Boys in the middle will learn to do things their own way and never seek any approval, whether right or wrong. They tend to believe in their own capabilities, which may expose them to numerous challenges of making wrong decisions. The situation for girls is quite different considering their gender. Girls generally need a lot of attention, approval and acceptability (Davis & Havighurst, 1946). However, girls in the middle tend to be neglected, which in turn affects their self esteem. In this paper, we shall focus on the female gender, as we seek to identify and analyze the common negativity traits that are acquired in female middle children.

Less ambitious

Female middle children tend to be less ambitious in life as they have grown with little pleasure and mostly used to things being done for them. They flow with the wind and often think that things will always that way. It however becomes an issue when they are mature and have to make their own decisions. The decisions the women make are based on temporal factors with no long term benefits. Female in their middle age will have no sense of direction and live life for the sake of living it. They will rely on others to make decisions for them and even buy into the ideas of others without analyzing the impact they have on them. When in adulthood, such a woman may be subjected to a lot of abuse and manipulation especially by her husband and her children. Making her spouse make almost every decisions can not only disastrous to their relationship but also fall victim to bad decisions which she simply agreed on without knowing their implications. Being less ambitious also subjects such women to a life of boredom, which is likely to affect the kind of relationships they hold (Serbin, Powlishta, Gulko, Martin & Lockheed, 1993). Not having the ability to participate in group decisions and discussions simply because one sees no future in anything can make them be avoided and even avoided.

Independent

Female in their middle ages learn independence at a very young age. With nobody following up on their life, most of them tend to believe in themselves and hence not seeking the approval of others. Their independence works negatively on them as they will have a problem of submission. Middle females have not been used to being told what is right or wrong and mainly maneuver through life. This becomes a problem when a group decisions has to be made basing on various analysis. The female middle child may not agree with any of the arguments raised against the decision that she feels will work well. Females in the middle age will find it difficult to submit to authority and the people that above them. This is simply because they have looked at authority with a negativity of negligence. They have lived a neglected life where by their parents, who are the first symbols of authority they have encountered have neglected them and paid less attention to them. The first born in their lives also makes them fell less important as they in vest their energies to please their parents and be role models to them, rather than having a personal relationship with them. With such an attitude in their mind, females in their middle age trust their own instincts more than what they are told. Their actions will therefore not be based on what they are told by their leaders but whet they believe is right in their own perspective.

Open minded

Female middle children are open minded and are always welcome to new ideas and suggestions. The experiences they go through due to their independence nature makes them more open to alternatives and more opportunities. Their position in the family also makes them have the advantage of doubt as their parents are less concerned about their conduct. Being open minded can negatively work on the middle females as they are likely to fall victims to bad ideas and suggestions. Being open minded also makes it difficult to begin and complete a project. They are always looking for new ways to make life interesting, and hence living many projects have done. Any sign of failure is likely to make them abort a project and pick up another one that shows more potential of success. Being open minded exposes them to the risk of being manipulated by potential corns who realize the weakness in them. They can be cheated into fake promises and projects only to be hurt as the people who gave them such promises disappear. Females in the middle are most probably the most abused as they seek to be recognized and respected (Schein, 1973). Males find a soft sport in them, and therefore making false promises on them, just to gain what they want.

Manipulative

Female in the middle tend to be manipulative and controlling. They usually want their decision to take center stage and even force people to buy into their ideas even if they are not right. They may not have a valid reason to why they are pushing for their decision but simply driven by the need to be heard and appreciated. It should be noted that in their childhood, they have not been used to making any decision. They have in fact fought for attention al the days of their life and the need to be accepted and appreciated. Their position in the family hierarchy forces them to demand for attention and even engage in some actions that will pull the concentration of the rest of their family members. As they grow up, they look for every opportunity to prove their worth and appreciation. Such a neglected need within them makes them manipulate others just to draw attention. Female in the middle can be so irritating, especially when you realize that all they are doing is to demand for attention rather than just prove a point.

Risk takers

Being in the middle teaches females to be risk takers and not care about the opinion or ideas of others. They have lived their lives knowing that they will have to bear the consequences of their mistakes. Knowing that they are not responsible or accountable to anybody else except themselves makes them take risks. Taking risks can work for the negative of the females especially when it involves sensitive decisions. The act of experimenting on every decision can make them mess up and make mistakes they will probably never recover from. Middle women always want to do things their own way knowing that nobody cares for them after all. The lack of trust in other people and only in themselves makes them live some sought of lonely and solitary life (Powlishta, 1995). The more mistakes they make and the consequences they face, the more they feel hated by the world around them and hence moving into solitary. Since they are not good at staying focused on one thing, they get more frustrated as they look for other activities that satisfy them.

Impatient

Being impatient is one of the character traits that describe women in the middle. There is a tendency for them to want things to work out in a particular way and form. This makes them so impatient, especially when they realize that things will not always go as planned. They easily walk out on relationships that are not working as planned. They give up on people and never give then a chance to explain or express themselves. Being sidelined and neglected at a younger age makes them loose trust in people and having started many projects that were never fruitful makes them loose their patience easily. They want to be sure of the end results before they start up on something. The focus on intended goals rather than working to overcome the challenges that come with the achievements makes them pull out of them easily. They get irritated by any weakness or mistake made in their journey towards success and gets rid of anything or anyone that appears to be the reason behind their not succeeding. Being impatient also makes them have few friends or even change friends frequently (Shiner, 1998). They are quick to get connected to people whom they feel are in their line of interests and immediately abandon them when they prove otherwise.
Females in the middle children acquire traits that affect their life and unless such issues are addressed, it might negatively affect their relationships. It is also important for their associates to u8nderstand that some of the traits they display are because of the negligence they faced in their childhood. They may not have had the privilege to enjoy the attention that is associated with the female gender and hence forcefully seek it when they grow up. Female in the middle can also use their weaknesses to bring out the positive in life. If done with proper guidance, females in the middle can be helped to achieve a lot by factoring on the strong points of their traits. For instance, the tendency of being impatient with people can help them keep few trusted friends, which will in turn boost their self esteem and hence making them to be better people in the society. We realize that with the negativity associated with each trait, there is a positive side that they can factor on.
