Who medicalized Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD) and why? A Neurologist named Jennifer Berman and her associate as well as sister who are a sex therapist Laura Berman were the first people to brand FSD and wrote a book on the issue. The FDA recognition was the step it took to make it medically acceptable the term however because there cannot be a drug developed and tested without first determining that there is in fact a disease present.Through testing and surveys it was determined that there is a reality in the term and medical condition now known as Female sexual Dysfunction. Unfortunately the surgeries offered have not been researched thoroughly and the risks pile up in contrast to the unknown benefits.
If FSD is not physiological, what did experts interviewed in the movie suggest might be the cause? Experts have determined through further research that rather than physiological fsd is less likely and the actual culprit could be a list of things including sexual trauma, sexual shyness, tiredness with daily stress and people who are unsatisfied with their body. To alleviate these symptoms perhaps requires addressing psychological concerns and not physiological concerns.
What was Charletta’s experience as a Clinical Trial Test Subject of the Orgasmatron? What was the irony of her experience? Charletta did not in fact find satisfaction through positive results from her clinical trial. Instead she found that she did not have a disease as doctors defined it and was just different than others and that was okay she’s normal.
What was the FDA’s final opinion on Proctor and Gamble’s Intrinsa? Why did they come to that conclusion? Proctor and Gamble decided that a testosterone patch named intrinsa produced real results that this drug works to stimulate orgasm. They concluded that failing to be aroused has to do with a lack of testosterone hormone in females.
