Interdisciplinary rounds(IDR) in a hospital setting increases patient satisfaction in a number ways. It increases the confidence that a patient has towards the treatment that he or she is getting in a given hospital. In most cases, a patient tends to be confident that the treatment that they are receiving is the right one, when those involved in the treatment process agree on the type of treatment he or she is receiving. The confidence and trust of the patient on the treatment he or she is receiving is critical to quick recovery and enhancing the satisfaction of the treatment offered by the health care providers. On the other hand, interdisciplinary round increase communication between the health care provider, the patient and their family (Cowan at al., 2005). This primarily helps the patient to ask question concerning the treatment process, the duration of time he will receive treatment and other important questions related to the care provision he or she is receiving. Communication with care provider is an important aspect of enhancing patient satisfaction in a hospital setting. Therefore, interdisciplinary rounds increases the patient satisfaction by enhancing communication between him or her and the care providers at all times.
Another benefit associated with IDR is that it increases patient safety. One of the main problems related to poor patient outcomes, is poor communication between the care provider and the patient ((Boos et al., 2010). Therefore, IDR brings the benefit of increased communication between the patient and care provider, thereby allowing him or her to communicate about the problem he or she may be having when in a hospital. This helps in identifying problems with beddings and other things that lower patient safety. When the patient of the safety is increased, automatically he will be satisfied with the services he is getting in a given hospital setting. In conclusion, it is evident that IDR increases patient satisfaction through increased safety, communication and confidence in the treatment he or she is receiving.
