Introduction

Plagiarism is the practice of copying someone else’s written work without either crediting or presenting their work as one’s own by copying their ideas. It is a fraudulent habit of using work that is not genuine and original in nature. Plagiarism is unethical and encourages cheating in a student’s mind and hence it needs to be controlled.

Body

Plagiarism is a problem because it slows down the student’s ability to think and write on his own, and it violates the rights of another person since their hard work is being copied off.

Stealing ideas

Dishonesty
It is dishonest to use written work by anyone else and use it under one’s own name. Many students don’t know about the consequences of doing so.

Harming honesty

The purpose of written work is to use one’s own ideas and thoughts to write something, however, when a student copies of someone else’s work then it shadows his own uprightness and truthfulness.

Solutions to Plagiarism

There are certain ways to control this problem.
Proper Guidance
Many students plagiarize because they don’t know how to write so giving proper guidelines to writing will help them follow their own thoughts.

Citing and Referencing

Teaching students how to cite and add references to material they use from others will help them limit copied work from others and if they do they will be sure to mention it.

Oral questioning on papers

If students are orally questioned, they will know that the work that is not theirs will be found out, so they will naturally avoid using content that is not theirs and write original papers.

Conclusion

Plagiarism is a problem that needs to be dealt with seriously to avoid cheating and dishonesty in writing and help student become honest and groomed writers. By employing strict measures, this offense can be warded off.
