In pursuit of greater professional achievements I am aware of the need to be educated by the best academic institutions. This is the primary reason for my decision to pursue my higher education degree in the United States, and in the process reach my best level of competence. In this regard, my choice for the New York University as the institution to apply for a Masters degree in Occupational Therapy is indeed understandable, given the said university’s high esteem in the academe that it is regarded as among the top ten universities in the entire United States. Prior to this pursuit, I was enrolled at Gannon University taking up Occupational Therapy classes. However, one year and a half years into the five-year program I had to transfer due to a technicality with my scholarship grant, which forbids me take combined academic programs such as the one offered by Gannon University. This paved the way for me to transfer to La Roche College, of which I am presently a senior majoring in Health Science. In this aspect, due to my exposure to the excellence of the American education system, I also have realized that there is much room for improvement in order for me to reach my highest level of competence, thus resulting to a desire to be educated under your university’s astute guidance.
Thus explaining my academic goals, I have likewise exhibited deep interest in delegating high quality medical services in the field of Occupational Therapy. This can be evidenced in my 30 hours of observation in three different duties; at Niagara Therapy in Pasadena, in a nursing home, and finally in a hospital setting. Admittedly, among all the healthcare-related responsibilities inclusive in Occupational Therapy, it is in rehabilitation that I find my calling due to its ability to improve the patients’ daily life. In terms of patient rehabilitation, it has been my personal advocacy to make the therapy sessions enjoyable to patients, despite of the pain and hardships that he or she has to endure in order to attain recovery. In this regard, my style often involve playing games in order to stimulate the patient’s urge to finish the tests, hence making the tasks both easier and more fun on the part of the patients. While indeed my past work experiences have allowed me to witness firsthand diverse personalities, cultures and religious beliefs, I must concede that the most memorable patient encounter involved a young boy who had trouble walking due to a foot injury. I was informed by his father that the boy had already been undergoing treatment for about a year, with little improvement, prior to our encounter. Needless to say, after only six months of therapy sessions the young boy is already able to walk with very little signs of his previous injury. True, successes like this one are the reasons for my unwavering interest in the field of Occupational Therapy.
Ultimately, upon completion of my Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy I intend to return to my homeland, (COUNTRY?), and teach students the academic and ethical principles I have learned in your university. This is because other then shortage in Occupational Therapies in my homeland, I also aspire to embed in younger generations of health care professionals the correct and competent way of delegating health care services to those in need. Hence, other than eventually seeking hospital employment in one of the major hospitals, I also desire to teach in a college or a university and share the expertise I would have gained by then from your esteemed academic institution. As such, it is my firmest belief on the significance of having a strong education foundation in my chosen field of Occupational Therapy. Being able to reach my optimal levels of academic and professional competence will not only assure me of higher achievements, but more so give me the opportunity to advance the prevailing state of Occupational Therapy in my native land.
