The question on the terrorist group that is likely to strike America in the next five years is relevant according to the present threat posed by the terrorist. Besides, there are many terrorist groups throughout the world that specializes in different techniques and regions. In order to get a precise answer to the question, it is necessary to evaluate the groups together with the previous attacks launched in the United States’ land and its allies. The terrorist groups operate in a coordinated manner throughout the world and intend to harm the United States and the countries that associate with it as well. A terrorist group would perceive a sound success when it strikes the United States of America. Even though terrorists have different objectives including the support to illegal businesses such as hard drug dealings and poaching, the groups targeting the United States mainly intend to cause massive destructions and killing of the citizens. In the year 2001, the eleventh day of the ninth month was amongst the darkest days in the American history when a massive attack took place on the World Trade Center. The attack was orchestrated by the Taliban – a terrorist group originating from Asia. Since that time, the operations in the center has never been the same and people have remained with scars while others having lost their relatives. Indeed it is not confirmed that the same terrorist group would not execute such an operation next time but there is a probability irrespective of the percentage.
In order to strike the United States in the next five years, the terrorist group should have a specific threshold of financial ability and prowess. The group should be deadly, wealthy, and have a significant number of followers in the world. Being deadly would allow the group to execute incredible missions including breaching of high profile security systems, an endeavor that also demands a great financial outlay. Lastly, proper worldwide coordination is necessary for the gathering of enough intelligence to permit complete understanding of the region before striking.
Islamic State which is the short form of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant/Syria (ISIS) is currently the most notorious terrorist group in the world. The group controls parts of Iraq and Syria and is unique since it was once condemned by the Al-Qaeda due to its incredible brutality. ISIS has members from all over the world and the islamists from the united Kingdom forms the greatest number as compared to other western countries. The group acts barbaric but have highly trained members with powerful networks. A member of the group recently carried an attack in Australia whereby he abducted people in a building before he was shot dead by the police to rescue the captives.
Al-Qaeda was initiated in 1989 by the late Osama Bin Laden and remains to be one of the most powerful Islamist extremist group that executes terror activities in the world. The group carried out the September 11 attacks in the US in 2001 and claimed responsibility through its leader. The group constitutes of many individuals who have full military training and targets the United States and their associates.
Taliban is one of the most famous terrorist groups and had governed Afghanistan for five years from 1996. The renowned terrorist groups include the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia and also referred to as FARC. The group specializes in ensuring continuity of illegal hard-drug trade worldwide.
The above descriptions have outlined about ten groups that lead the general list of terrorists. In the analytical perspective, it is wise to prioritize the Al-Qaeda, the Taliban and the Islamic State in the list of the group that is likely to strike the United States in the next five years. The reason for prioritizing the three groups is that the other groups seem to have more regional interests as compared to the three. However, further evaluations can eliminate other groups technically. To start with Al-Qaeda, the group achieved its greatest ‘success’ in 2001 and may not have a serious endeavor towards striking the US again as compared to other groups. Al-Qaeda is also trailed by the American Security Agencies and this may minimize its chances of another attack. The Taliban mainly targeted enforcement of the Islamic Sharia laws in the states that their reign and America is not among such countries. Second, Taliban is a constituent of the larger Al-Qaeda and may share many challenges affecting Al-Qaeda as well. The Islamic State seems to have higher chances since it intends to outdo Al-Qaeda and its achievements in terrorism as well, it has highly trained personnel and numbers worldwide. ISIS is growing faster in its population due to the increasing sympathizers worldwide. The group has a dense network in the west and this increases its chances. According to the analysis ISIS provided herein, ISIS is likely to strike the United States in the next five years.
