Electronics such as mobile phones, televisions, video games and computers have come to be widely used by children. This is due to the affordability of electronics and easy access to these electronic devices. Children have come to be accustomed to these electronic devices making them addicted to certain devices due the time they spend hooked to these devices. Electronic devices have come to be widely used by children and specifically teenagers. Electronic devices have come to be more of like basic needs since every child has come to own at least a few electronic devices especially mobile phones. This topic is drawn based on the influence that these electronic devices have had on children. This paper will, therefore, analyze the various impacts that these electronic devices that they have had on children.
There are positive implications that may come out of the electronic devices that children have access to. It is important to admit that these electronic devices that children are constantly hooked to may be essential in maintaining communication (Chudacoff 45). Despite the positive impacts that these electronic devices have, it is clear that there are a number of negative long-term effects that associated with the use of these electronic devices.
Isolation is a common side effect of electronic devices on children. This is due to the amount of time that children are spending constantly hooked to electronic devices such as mobile phones. Statistics show that most children spend most of the time from when they wake till late at night sending messages to friends (Jordan 36). Isolation is common in the sense that there are very limited face to face interactions with the people that the children are supposed to be in contact with. Children may in the long run fail to acquire essential skills that are required in holding conversations. Children who are constantly isolated using these devices may lack the ability to use proper etiquette during the little conversation they may be involved in since they are not social.
Bullying has also been on the rise through the use of social media and other forms of messaging services. High number of children who have been bullied online which has also been progressing to the point where there have been numerous physical confrontations. These kinds of confrontations are ignited by the constant online bullying that is being witnessed across social media. Statistics have proved that children have been physiologically affected through the mean comments that may have been directed to them. Threatening messages have also been on the increase where children may be in bad terms with each other. Online bullying issues may fail to be resolved due to the nature of some bullying where the bully may be anonymous.
Children education may be affected by the use of electronic devices since their attention will be directed to these devices leaving little time for their studies. It is also inevitable not to note the changes in sleeping patterns among children who have unlimited access to electronics. This is because it is likely that if a child has not slept, they are likely to be online doing a wide range of things. Through proper analyzing school records, a majority of children who have access to electronics have poor grades. This Cleary illustrates the impact that these devices have had in their lives. Other negative impacts include changes in mood where a child may not be happy about something that was probably said about them on social media.
There are also physical effects that have been noted in children who are constantly hooked to electronic devices such as video games. Obesity is common among children who involve themselves in activities that do not require any physical activity. Such cases of obesity are on the rise due to the little efforts that is required in using these electronic devices (Naidoo 65). Obesity is inevitable among such children since they are likely to be consuming a lot of unhealthy food substances when just sitting down. It is important to ensure that there is a mix in activities to avoid the complication that are associated with being addicted to electronic devices. Through varying the activities that children are involved in, there is a high possibility that these kinds of physical issues may be avoided.
Children who are hooked t electronic devices are likely to have rain development issues. This is due to the challenges that they may acquire in getting accustomed to skills that are required in maintaining good social relations. Studies indicate that language skill and part of the brain may also be affected when a child spends too much time viewing the television. This is in contrast to the possibility of acquiring proper communication skills which is an advantage of electronic devices.
There are also positive impacts in the use of the different kind of electronic devices. The positive impacts that the use of electronic devices have vary depending on the electronic devices being used. Children who are constantly hooked to the television are likely to acquire a good command in language depending on the content that they are viewing. Through such skill, there is a high possibility that such children will have good grades on the different languages that they may be studying.
The use of computers may also be positive depending on the content that they are viewing. Chances are that children will broaden their minds if they conduct their research online. Through this, it will be possible for children to acquire information that may be useful to them and their studies (Rosemond 21). Children may advance their studies through the use of information gathered from the use of electronics. Peer reviewed materials are also made available online where children who have access to electronics such as computers may go through them and learn some relevant things. Messaging services that are made possible through electronics devices such as phones have been useful in maintaining communication. This is because parents can now effectively communicate with their children when they are not directly in contact.
Through the analysis that has been provided, it is clear that there are a number of positive and negative impacts associated with the use of electronic devices. Electronic devices cannot be fully eliminated from children since accessibility cannot be limited. It is important to conduct proper education to children on how to use them for positive purposes. This will ensure that they are positive and affect children in a good way.
