Economic Development/Modernization Or Dependency Research Paper

According to what is “Development”, the definition of development has caused a lot of controversy among the intellectuals. These disputes are majorly as a result of various issues to be considered. For example for a development in a given country to be realized, there are various factors that are to be considered. These factors vary from one country to another. Some of the countries that rely on agriculture need to improve on the method employed in the production to improve the economy, other countries depend on tourism as the main source of income. These countries have to invest in the security and infrastructure that will provide the services for the tourists coming to visit their country. So for a country to experience increase in the economy, they have to prioritize some of the factors as compared to others. This can also be witnessed between the two countries of Argentina and Chile. Both this countries experienced development differently. Some of the factors that contributed for the economic growth in Chile are different from the factors that contributed to economic growth in Argentina. Argentina majorly relied on agriculture to improve the life of its citizens while Chile relied on industrial minerals to rise up the ladder.
Development in both the Argentina and Chile is best explained by the modernization. This is evidence as Chile used to be a country that was never recognized in the Latin America. This was so as it was a country that most the Spanish never so the potential of it having some minerals. As is to most countries, all believed that gaining of their independence may bring an end to the suffering of the nation and the nation will start experiencing drastic changes in term of development. However this was not the case for Chile. This is because after gaining its independence the growth of the countries economy was not felt. The county was not recognized as always. However the country experienced a brighter era on the discovery of industrial minerals. This discovery is what gave Chile what it has been longing to. The discovery of the industrial mineral led to the countries economic growth which made the country to be recognized and respected in the region (Puryear and Jeffrey, p. 280).
For the Argentina country, it is totally different with that of Chile. Because of the climatic condition that Argentina was experiencing, and the advantage of the reach soil that favored agriculture. It was the most recognized country and the reaches in Latin America. This rich Agriculture contributed to high number of immigration from the Europe that influenced the exportation of the agricultural products which were majorly beef and wheat to the European countries. In the world today, democratic system of government is recognized as the modern system of government and dictatorship is identified as the traditional system of government. The decline of the economy of Argentina was experienced at the moment the Argentina government shifted from the modern system of government to the tradition system of government. This shift of democracy to dictatorship contributed to some of the European citizens living the country, the country losing its reputation and finally the countries economy falling (Skidmore et al, p. 262).
Comparison of the two countries, we can believe that the main idea for the countries economic development is living the tradition way and deciding on the modern way. This is witnessed by the development in Chile which was as a result for the discovery of industrial mineral and the same was witnessed in Argentina of how the economy can be greatly affected if a country deviates from its modernity back to its traditional way of running its operation. Argentina nation, which is a recognized, respectable and one of the riches country in Latin America, starts to experience economic down fall because changing from its modern system of government to the tradition system of government.
