The French Revolution was one of the most significant events in history, not only for France, but for a large part of Europe, as well as the world. The movement to bring the new ideas that removed the structure of monarchial rule to be replaced by a democracy was influencing nations throughout the world, whether through direct or indirect urging by the French revolutionaries. A large number of these countries were in opposition of the revolution; however, there were some that supported the concepts that were implemented by the revolutionaries.
Countries that adopted the philosophies of the revolutionaries and found gains did so because of the benefits they experienced as a result of the patriotic nationalism that the movement endorsed. The countries aside from France, to embrace the new ways and prosper were Italy in Switzerland in particular. The nation which I believe was most in opposition of the liberte, egalite, and fraternite was Britain. As one of the most powerful monarchies to conquer various parts of the world, they were France’s biggest competition. Adopting these views that was brought forth by a country that was suggesting removal of the aristocratic system would only harm Britain. Britain had too much to lose by adoption of the new system forced by the French Revolution.
The United States would have been the country to embrace the ideas of the revolution most because the view adopted in America was already so similar. The Americans already opposed the structure of monarchy because of their troubles and rebellion to the British monarch. The concepts of democracy were one that America was an early adopter of as well, making the United States most open to the progressive political format of the French Revolution.
