INTRODUCTION .

The architectural elements of the Romans Colloseum were applied as a testament to the importance of punishment and entertainment during the Roman Empire’s rule. The Romans Colloseum was constructed by punished slaves. The most prominent design component in the Roman Colloseum is the application of arcades that were implemented in order to stabilize the structure. There is chiselled stone that is placed in almost every section of the visible edification. The chiselled stone was not applied in the passageways and the vaulted chambers (A+E Networks Digital 1; A View on Cities 1; Artifice 1 & Rome 1).

Artistic and Architectural Elements

The Roman Colloseum is based on an elliptical form. The Roman Colloseum is composed of an outer elliptical ring that composes the external points of the Colloseum. There are corridors that protrude by the application of wedged passageways that provide access to the internal elliptical ring of the Colloseum. The narrow passages serve as foundations for the area where the audience viewed the entertainment of acts of justice (A+E Networks Digital 1; A View on Cities 1; Artifice 1 & Rome 1).
The solid character of the Colloseum was a requisite due to the numbers of people who would be in attendance of any of the presentations. The Roman Colloseum was constructed by the application of small stones which were implemented in order to support the mass of the edification. It took eight years to construct the Roman Colloseum. In addition, the Roman Colloseum became associated with the sanguine-filled entertainment. Considering the era of its construction and its massive size, the Roman Colloseum serves as an architectural testament to the authority of Vespasian and Emperor Titus (A+E Networks Digital 1; A View on Cities 1; Artifice 1 & Rome 1).
The entertainment arcades of the Roman Colloseum were created in four segments and were conjoined by half columns in order to facilitate the support of the massive weight of the stone formed walls. The upper part of the Roman Colloseum was outfitted with an awning that provided share for the Roman spectators during the days when there was extreme heat and during the epochs of rainy weather. In the examination of the external frontal aspect of the Roman Colloseum, the superimposed tiers of the entertainment arcades are manifest. These arcades lead to corridors and passageways that lead to the viewing entertainment area. In addition, from the upper part of the Roman Colloseum, the spectators were endowed with a magnificent view of the Roman countryside and the constructions of Rome (A+E Networks Digital 1; A View on Cities 1; Artifice 1 & Rome 1).
The idea of the spectators having the capacity of being able to view people who were sentenced to horrific deaths in the entertainment arcades was one of the tributes to the authority of Rome. The concept of being able to look and see people fighting for their lives on the lower floors of the Roman Colloseum provided curiosity and authority for desiring to witness the spectacle. The Roman Colloseum serves as the design paradigm for the stadiums of today (A+E Networks Digital 1; A View on Cities 1; Artifice 1 & Rome 1).
In order to ingress into the Roman Colloseum, the spectators entered by means of eighty distinct entrances that were at the level of the street. The arcs were an important characteristic of Roman Architecture. The arches that were applied in the creation of the Colloseum are based on the Roman perspective of social class. Sixty eight of the arches were used for the ingress of the members of the general public. Six of the arches were applied for the government and religious officials. The final six arches were applied as points of ingress for the people who were condemned to death (A+E Networks Digital 1; A View on Cities 1; Artifice 1 & Rome 1).
The construction and architecture of the Roman Colloseum is established to demonstrate the advantage of the members of the upper Roman class and to the humiliation of the lower class members of society. The members of the upper classes were enabled to view the members of the lower classes at a height that was extraordinary for its time. The seat that were the closest to the action were allocated to the wealthiest Roman citizens. The Roman emperor also administrated the events from the inner circle. The Roman Colloseum was designed to seat more than fifty five thousand spectators (A+E Networks Digital 1; A View on Cities 1; Artifice 1 & Rome 1).
In the Colloseum, all of the spectators were able to enjoy the spectacles. In the catacombs of the Roman Colloseum, the beasts and the condemned were lodged. The catacombs of the Roman Colloseum extend to a death of seven to twelve meters below ground level. This is where the caged animals would be maintained separately. The dark passageways that extend from the catacombs were applied in order to confuse the condemned. The lower floors of the Roman Colloseum were subterranean in order to facilitate the flowing of the catacombs for the sea battles. The sea battles were applied as an entertainment model that was applied to glorify Rome and its administrators (A+E Networks Digital 1; A View on Cities 1; Artifice 1 & Rome 1).

CONCLUSION

It is apparent from the architectural elements of the Roman Colloseum why it has been perceived as one of the wonders of the world. The architectural elements, and the inferences are a testament to the reason the Rome was an extremely advanced empire in the context of the era. The Roman Colloseum was a testament to the struggle between death and life and served as model of the Roman Empire’s perspective of conquest. The Roman Colloseum has continued to endure until the present time. The development of the arch is an invention and architectural element that serves to provide utility to the present day. The Roman Colloseum was the originator of the stadium architectural form that is applied in the present day.
