Ethical issues are the problems that require a person to choose between alternatives that must be evaluated as right/ethical or wrong/unethical. When a student enters a college, he faces many ethical issues because everyone is coming with their culture and morals taught. And when there are differences, there is a chance of conflict too. A major ethical issue student’s face today is cyber bullying. Cyberbullying describes bullying using mobile phones and on the internet. Students often deal with online bullying and threats between students. Now they are frequently the victims of damaging facebook posts or rumors posted on other social networking websites as well. Students use different tactics to harass other students online, spread rumors and gossip about that. Since everybody is linked up in college, and one rumor or news about someone can ruin his image within seconds, so this issue has become most important to deal with (Zalaquett and Chatters).
Cyberbullying directly hits on students mental health. It can be a catalyst for psychological distress, provokes fear and in extreme cases increases risk factors associated with suicide. Student lacks his confidence and college grade get affected simultaneously. Students who are being attacked, there is a lot of shame associated, and they feel awkward and afraid of their parents if they see that online and will not support their kid. Most commonly different ethnic groups and female students are the primary victims (Edward). To minimize this issue, students should show some ethical responsibility by empathizing themselves on victim’s place. Everything that gets written and communicated can be traced to its originator. To avoid getting into controversies, one should probably abstain discussing openly on social networking websites, emails or mobile messages (Bezrutczyk).
