The topic interests me because in today's world when people literally neglect their health in pursuit of their ambition, career and dreams and try to excel amidst the cutthroat competitive environment, stress is one factor that plagues all. Almost every one of us is bogged down by the pressure of work, studies, and various challenges life throws at us. Both physical and mental stress has become integrated with our daily life. However, most of us have the tendency to ignore our stress level or cope up with stress unhealthily until our physical and mental state reach a point of exhaustion, and various diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer and cardiovascular ailment, all induced by stress, bear us down (Smith and Segal 2014). It is important, therefore, to apply precautionary measures by following a healthy lifestyle. Healthy lifestyle means incorporating habits that improve our health. Healthy lifestyle consists of eating and drinking well, sleeping and waking on time, doing exercise regularly, keeping weight in check, staying away from drugs, cigarettes, alcohol and other harmful substances. It has been seen that healthy lifestyle reduces stress and lifts up the mood, but most of the people try to cope up with stress in a harmful way by drinking too much, smoking, using drugs, overeating and sleeping too much ("Why Is It Important?" 2014). Such unhealthy lifestyle choices accelerate the deterioration of the body, and therefore, stress should be reduced by adopting a healthy lifestyle.
The topic of a healthy lifestyle and stress management covers a wide range of areas. Stress and health are interconnected. Stress racks our body, and if stress persists in one’s life for a long period of time, it takes a toll on his or her health, giving rise to a number of stress-induced diseases. However, stress is unavoidable, because stress comes in different situations through professional and personal circumstances. Therefore, it is important for one to know how to cope up with stress in a healthy manner.
In order to know how a healthy lifestyle is related to stress management, one must know the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Exercise and eating right are the two major contributors to good health. Most of the people avoid doing any exercise at all, because either they do not manage time out of their busy schedule of work or studies or they hate the idea of going to the gym at the end of the day. However, exercise has a lot of benefits one must be aware of. Exercise can get the endorphins running to help manage stress by boosting the amount of norepinephrine in the brain. Exercise also increases happiness and self-confidence. Aside from exercise, eating healthy also promotes weight loss and improves health. In order to know how to tackle stress, one must also know the connection between smoking, alcohol, and drugs with stress, and how the use of these substances add stress to life rather than reducing it. In order to know the connection between stress and diseases, one must gather information related to how diabetes, hypertension, heart ailments, and even cancer can be triggered by stress.
In the era of information technology, it is easier to come across information relating to a topic within a matter of a few minutes on the internet. However, not all the information published on the internet is reliable. Therefore, one must apply the technique of filtration before using the information collected from the open source. The information related to the healthy lifestyle benefits and its connection with stress management must be gathered from reputable peer-reviewed journals, articles published by trusted sources, and books written by individuals qualified in the topic. If the scholarly articles are not readily available on the internet, one must look at the library collection of one’s one university to gather materials from.
