The Frailty Myth

In the reading, The Frailty Myth by Dowling the author described how women began to approach physical and mental equality ; the same topic was discussed in Rothenberg work . The author discussed the different issues that may be related to women being the inferior gender as opposed to males. The topic of female inferiority was touched frequently in the paper. This is because this was the main topic in the paper. There was one part that made me stop and this was when the author mentioned that females are naturally and physically inferior to males but despite that fact, they, females, are already catching up.

Race, Class and Gender in the United States

The main topic in the work entitled Race, Class, and Gender in the United States can automatically be considered as an issue that lies under gender equality. The author mentioned different arguments that supported his notions about the underlying social situation of citizens in the United States. If there is one thing that made me stop in that paper, that would be the fact that the United States social system is one that is filled with a high level of inequality. This is, in fact, alarming because the gap between the rich and the poor people are actually widening, as indirectly mentioned in the literature. In the analysis part, there was one particular idea that caught my attention. This was the idea that suggested that the class structuring in the U.S. was so fluid and dynamic; that before, the U.S. was largely composed of middle class families—families who could either make it to the top or bottom of the social system depending on how hard they work or how determined they are in attaining their life goals.
The U.S. Class Structure
In another reading entitled The U.S. Class Structure, the authors discussed the class structuring system in the United States . This is what led to the author of this paper’s argument that what the sociology readings had in common was their focus on equality, be it social or gender equality. This was, in fact, a common denominator among the readings in the class was the methods that authors used to prove their points. If there is one thing that would make readers think and stop, that would be the fact that the author perfectly described the U.S. social class and system status. The complex description of the author about the current dilemma that U.S. policymakers must face when it comes to introducing equality in the social system has been mentioned as well. It is important to note, however, that the author introduced certain unorthodox methods in presenting his findings. Some of the examples he used were also more than vivid enough to get the readers to understand and get the point he was making. Needless to say, the work that the author has covered were more than enough to make the readers get the point he was trying to make and to understand a whole bunch of things about the class structure in the United States.
This idea got me because the situation in the U.S. today is the exact opposite of this. Today, families who belong to the elite social class continue to thrive, financially and influentially, while those in the lower end of the spectrum continue to go down deeper, both financially and influentially as well. If there is one thing that I would still like to know, that would be the perfect solution to this long standing problem in equality.

Honky

This source is a book, which means that the design used was a review type and therefore non-experimental. The main idea that the author focused on was Dalton Conley’s childhood, who also happens to be the author of the literature. He grew up in America, particularly in one of the mostly black and Puerto Rican neighborhood in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. One of the most prominent points introduced in this paper was the fact that there was a certain barrier that existed between certain minorities in the United States, or at least in the neighborhood where Conley lived in. He, for example, witnessed how blacks were discriminated in the U.S. This issue is alarmingly consistent and this is why it deserves a high level of attention both from the policymakers and the people, especially the readers of the book Honky. If there is one thing that I would want to know more about, that would be how these social issues can be ultimately solved because apparently, the solutions that have been tried in the past did not work. There has to be a perfect solution to all of these problems and unfortunately, it appears that the policymakers and the members of the society in general do not yet have the drive to look for that exact solution.
