RE : Impact of Culture on Communication
Culture creates differences in the way messages are sent and received by the persons who interact with each other. Intercultural business communication is affected by culture in the manner how persons encode messages and the mediums they use to transmit them, and the manner these messages are being interpreted.
Culture can function as disturbance in communication for it has a tendency to distort the intended meaning when it involves international setting. It is important to understand the opportunities and challenges of intercultural communication to have a successful organization.
The differences in styles of communication can slow down the process of decision making and working processes within a community and can weaken social ties. Intercultural communication can be hindered when signs are not recognized due to the failure of persons who use values and norms of one culture to explain the behavior of individuals from another.

Differences between high-context and low-context cultures

Low-Context Culture High-Context Culture
Text (explicitness) Context (implicitness)
Information (facts) Communication (feelings, opinions)
Low information load (small chunks) High information load (large chunks)
KISS (keep it short and simple) KILC (keep it long and complete)
Reader friendly (peer/peer) Writer- oriented (expert/non-expert)
In order to prevent the dysfunctional result, communication difficulties may be resolved by knowing and understanding the culture of the persons you are communicating with.

An effective communication involves both group and intergroup dynamics and is not only dependent on the skills of organizational members.

Understanding the intentions and positions of groups and individuals and how it can affect the sharing of information will establish stronger relationships and avoid miscommunications.
Understanding the culture of individuals in an organization will prevent creating social barriers which can divide or segregate the members of the group or organization. Thus, it is important that every successful organization to observe guided communication between the members to avoid any misunderstanding.
