Culture can function as disturbance in communication for it has a tendency to distort the intended meaning when it involves international setting. It is important to understand the opportunities and challenges of intercultural communication to have a successful organization.
The differences in styles of communication can slow down the process of decision making and working processes within a community and can weaken social ties. Intercultural communication can be hindered when signs are not recognized due to the failure of persons who use values and norms of one culture to explain the behavior of individuals from another.

Understanding the culture of individuals in an organization will prevent creating social barriers which can divide or segregate the members of the group or organization.
