Ravindranath, Nijavalli H. & Sathaye, Jayant A. Climate Change and Developing Countries. New York, NY: Springer Science & Business Media, 2002.
The book is a trusted source because the authors utilized comprehensive data and information to support the discussion about climate change in developing countries. Ravindranath and Sathaye worked for ten years to conduct research about climate change and participated in different initiatives and activities to contribute to research and efforts to combat climate change. The authors also consulted trusted resource persons in the scientific/academic community to gather data about the contributions of developing countries to climate change. The authors largely depend on existing information and data to trace the history of climate change, determine the impact of human activities, particularly in developing countries, to climate change, and identify strategies to mitigate outcomes of this phenomena. For this reason, the authors presented a balanced perspective without being political or opinionated about the issue.
Taylor, Peter J. & Buttel, Frederick H. How do we know we have Global Environmental Problems? Science and the Globalization of Environmental Discourse. Geoforum, 23:2 (1992), 405-416.
Taylor and Buttel are both scholars who studied global warming and climate change in their respective universities. Both authors are also professors and have studied climate change for years prior to writing the article. For this reason, the scholarly article is a trusted source from which one would be able to determine the link between environmental issues and political and global issues. The authors’ points are academic in nature, and are therefore balanced in perspective. Taylor and Buttel proposed concepts that could explain how political and global issues affect discourse about environmental issues, thereby, establishing questions and issues that should be addressed when tackling climate change on a global scale. The authors also emphasized human activities in third world countries are some of the factors that contribute to climate change.
Ball, Jeffrey. “Climate Change is Now in the Developing World’s Hands. The Slate Group. 29 Nov 2013. Web. 21 Feb 2015. <http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/energy_around_the_world/2013/11/warsaw_climate_talks_developing_countries_will_be_source_of_greenhouse_gas.html>.
Ball is a journalist for The Slate Group. Hence, the author is not considered an expert in climate change. In the article, Ball discussed the outcomes of the climate change conference in Warsaw, Poland and highlighted the implications of these outcomes. In the article, Ball integrated his opinion about the subject by communication his own interpretations and take on the climate change issue. Nevertheless, Ball also cited important events in the past leading up to the climate change conference, which means that the author conducted research about the topic. Ball emphasized that the developing world’s involvement is important in addressing climate change considering the significant effect of human activities in developed countries on the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
