Resilience In Remarried Families Research Proposal Samples

Study Design

This paper will employ an exploratory, descriptive study design. Cross-sectional kind of approach will be used since data will be collected at one point in time. For data collection segment, the study will use Self-administered pretested questionnaires. The research tool will contain both closed and open-ended questions that participants will fill. The rationale for using this kind of design is that, the participants will be in a position to answer the questions independently without any bias thus making it a self-report (Punch, 2000). In the open-ended questions, participants will give their views on resilience in remarried families. The participants' responses will guide the study in exploring factors that influence adaptation and adjustments of resilience in remarried families.

Study site

A family is the smallest basic social group of people in a community. Members of a family are mostly blood-bound, or they share common characteristics. My study site will be the family since my topic is concerned with remarried families.

Study Population

A family consists of parents and, children. House helps and staff helping with the household duties are also considered as the family fraternity. The population is defined in keeping with the objective of the study.

Inclusion and exclusion criteria

Families that will be selected using stratified random sampling will be included in the study. Those who will be excluded from the study include; house helps and other staff found in the family, children who are below the age of 14, eligible family members who refuse to give consent and those members who will be absent during the time of data collection.

Sample size and sampling procedure

The study will use the Cochran formula (1977), as a statistical tool to determine the sample size. Moreover, the sampling procedure will be a probability sampling method. Subjects are to be selected from remarried families using the stratified random sampling.

Data collection

The main research instrument will be a questionnaire containing both closed and open-ended type of questions. Both parents and, eligible children will fill the questionnaires that I will personally administer. This research instrument is favorable since the target group is literate, and the target population is not too complex (Salkind, 2010).

Assumptions

The study assumes that family members will willingly and, honestly respond to the questions in the questionnaire.
Limitations of the research design
Since the response that will be given is through self-report, participants will tend to give socially or morally acceptable responses to sensitive questions hence; this will affect the quality of the study. In addition, the study focuses on a relatively small population of remarried families, and thus the findings cannot be used for generalization

Theoretical framework

The paper is centered on two theoretical bases. First, divorce in remarried families is prone as compared to the first marriage. Secondly, families with good coping skills are in a better position in adapting to family changes and thus easy to adjust to any environmental factors. In Family Adaptation model, there is a relationship between the family’s characteristics in coping with crisis or change and the degree of resilience.
Variables identified include problem-solving skills, positive communication by the family members, and family power of endurance. These variables are interrelated whereby lack of one variable may lead to instability in the family (Kothari, 2004).
Two of the experimental key characteristics will include control and randomization. Random selection of subjects will be done thus remarried families equal chances will be included in the study. According to Salkind (2010), if control features are not put into consideration, the features will affect h the validity of the study since one has no power to adjust them. Data collected will be analyzed using the descriptive statistics generated with the help of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences program (SPSS) to generate frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviations.
