The UK And US Union During The World War Essay Samples

The grand alliance was made during the World War II between The Great Britain by Winston Churchill and the United States by Franklin Roosevelt. It is also referred as the strange alliance because it was an alliance between the greatest capitalist state, the greatest colonial power, and the greatest communist state. It was a convenience alliance as it was an alliance to defeat the Nazi threat in Germany. The union was necessary to defeat Hitler after widespread death and bloody warfare in Europe for six years.
The major impact of the union was the Nazi defeat. The Soviet Union, lead to a remarkable effort on the lead to Nazi defeat. Without this effort, Great Britain would have had decisive military victory over the Nazi. Also, there were many deaths in Germany, approximately four million Germans died and also an estimated eight million Russians during the war. Additionally, during the Holocaust an estimated six million Jews died. The war affected different countries in Middle East, Asia and Africa where there was untold suffering of many people, like the atomic bombs thrown to Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
Also, there were increased demands for independence by different countries, especially those which were European possessions. Other countries like Vietnam and Algeria, fought bitter wars in an attempt to maintain their control over the colonies. Global power balance moved to Washington, Moscow and Berlin from Paris and London. Consequently, the defining paradigm in the next half century was a cold war. After the war had ended, many Russians occupied the Eastern Europe because they had a large, powerful army. Also, the Second World War stimulated the economy of the United States as compared to World War I. By 1945, the U.S economy was dominating the world economy; it was also a leader of the Free World and a major military power.
