There are several gender differences in the use of computer-mediated communication. Different gender has different views in the computer-mediated communication. As seen from the past, men have traditionally dominated the technology thus comprising the majority of the users of the computer networks since the beginning (Allen, 1995, p 229). Men show different behaviors when it comes to computer-mediated communication. The way, men, and women, behave and interact online, is much different. These differences ranges from various styles of posting to the internet to the way men and women have different communicative ethics, which is the way they value different types of online interactions as being appropriate and desirable.
There is the difference in the linguistic structure and rhetoric of the messages within different gender as used in the computer-mediated communication. Women tend to use different linguistic styles when posting on the internet which is so different when compared to men. The women’s linguistic structure is much distinct from that of men.
The mobile phone usage behaviors tend to be different when compared to men and women. Men tend to have more interest in the use of more complex mobile phones whereas a majority of women considers use of more simple mobile phones (Allen, 1995, p 143). Currently, tablets are more preferred by male gender that the female gender. A research conducted at the purchase of tablets in a retail shop shows that men are the highest consumers of tablets that women.
Online shopping is mostly preferred by male gender that women. It is also evident that male gender like socializing more on the social media than women socialize. Women are reluctant in sharing information on the social media as opposed to men. Men are more willing to share any given information on the social media that women.
How history affects a nation’s culture
History of a given nation has a great impact on the culture of the nation. As said by Steans, “The past causes the present, and the presence causes the future”, this clearly tells us that the nations’ culture largely depends on the history of that nation (Samovar et al., 2013 p 91). The knowledge of history and heritage helps to understand the current values and different institutions in the country. As seen in the United States culture, this culture can be traced back in the European nations since they migrated to the United States with that particular culture thus being embraced.
History of a country provides the identity that can be used to unify people coming from different backgrounds and different cultures. The nations’ history is important in unifying the country’s varied social strata (Samovar et al., 2013 p 93). The Chinese culture is also affected by the history of the country. Most people will try to behave in the way the found it, this is to say, people inherit cultural practices and beliefs from the past. This shows that the history has a direct effect the culture of the nation.
The nation’s culture is affected by history in the sense that several nations have some days in which they mark some of the historical events that took place in the country. When such historical events are marked, many people tend to reflect upon them thus incorporating those historical events into their culture.
Furthermore, geographical historic events have also helped to control the culture of the country. As it is in China, the China’s uninterrupted record of cultural heritage and development has been influenced by the historical geography. This influences the development of the nation that also tells of the country’s culture.
