Child abuse is one of the critical issues in society. It is worth noting that child abuse should be differentiated from the normal discipline. Based on the case study the Ameer Ican seems to have undergone through child abuse due to physical bruises and the behavior. The behavioral symptoms shown by the child is an indication that he has been abused. The child services divisions encourage individual to report suspected child neglect and abuse. Joan Chen can reported the case since her duties entail direct contact and supervision of Ameer Ican. On the same note, it is the mandate of each stakeholder in question to report the Ameer’s case to the authorities dealing with it. The supervisor and the psychologist have the mandate to report the case. It is evident from the case study that Joan, the psychologist, and the supervisor suspect an incident of child abuse and neglect. Protecting the abuse of children in society is the responsibility of the community. Joan should not fear to report the case before her superiors do because it is the responsibility of everybody in society to report any suspected incident of child neglect and child abuse. The fact is that Joan as been advised to report to the right authorities.
The consequences of reporting child neglect and abuse vary depending on the position of the reporter. In this case, if Joan reports the case she might lose her job. In addition, reporting the case may anger the parent of the child and the entire family. Joan’s superiors may victimize Joan for overrating on the situation. In the general perspective, reporting child neglect may create tension among the responsible stakeholders.
Some of the ways to defend not reporting the Ameer’s case include the aspect of not understand the procedures of reporting. Another reason is the belief that there are specific professionals who should report the case. In addition, issues of security can be another rationale for, not reporting.
